There's something reliably exciting about a National Youth Orchestra concert; when they play, everything feels slightly turned up. This time they're back at the Barbican with conductor Alexandre Bloch for an evening that moves between colour, atmosphere and full-throttle orchestral power.

The programme includes Debussy's “Ibéria” and Ravel's “Rapsodie Espagnole”, both layered, intense, and ideal for a large orchestra that isn't afraid of a little drama. There's also Anna Clyne's “DANCE”, performed in dialogue with cellist Inbal Segev, and Karim Al-Zand's City Scenes, a vivid portrait of urban life that builds towards a properly frenetic finish.

The concert takes place at 7pm in Barbican Hall, and tickets can be booked in advance if you're keen to go.
