Opium

A visit to Opium can turn a trip to the bar into an exciting and immersive experience. This cocktail and dim sum parlour in Chinatown houses three bars across two floors of the building. Find the mysterious jade green coloured door on Gerrard Street to enter 1920s Shanghai and explore one-of-a-kind cocktails.

Once inside you can choose between different bars. The Academy Bar is a comfortable lounge environment with sofas, booths, and bar-side seats to watch the bar team work. The brightly-coloured Apothecary Bar includes a tea parlour section with traditional low seats, and then there’s the small and intimate Peony Bar, tucked away behind a pair of red curtains. This space is suited to private hire functions and can accommodate up to 30 guests.

Each bar has its own menu but you’ll discover exotic and well-presented cocktails, taking inspiration from Asia as well as other parts of the world. Expect intense flavours like yuzu, chocolate, and miso balanced with other ingredients to create unique modern cocktails. Try an Asian-inspired option like the Umami Martini or Shanghai Punch.

A dim sum menu is also available to accompany the drinks with food, including traditional and modern treats, plus vegetarian choices. Choose a platter to share or an individual basket, or other bar snacks like prawn crackers or wasabi peas.
