Nearly every Japanese meal comprises either white rice or noodles. Meat, fish, vegetables, and other accompaniments are referred to as Okazu, a term most aptly translated as side dishes. While sushi stands as Japan's most famous dish, a plethora of others exists. Yakiniku (marinated grilled meat), Sake (traditional Japanese alcoholic beverage), tempura (deep-fried vegetables, fish, meat, or seafood), and okonomiyaki (commonly known as "Japanese pancake") also enjoy widespread recognition.
