Hyde Park is a world-famous Grade I listed park in the city, almost synonymous with the term “London park” due to its long history, regular large-scale events that take place there, and proximity to royal residences and some of London’s most affluent areas.

Contrary to common belief, the iconic park doesn’t encompass the entire green area you might see on a map. The eastern half is actually Kensington Gardens, which closes at dusk, as opposed to Hyde Park, which is only closed from midnight to 5am. That said, during daytime, there’s nothing stopping you from strolling from one end to the other.

Part of the chain of Royal Parks that lead from Kensington Palace to Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park was originally conceived as a hunting ground for King Henry VIII. Today, it regularly hosts massive events such as protests and rock concerts, as well as the traditional Winter Wonderland every festive season.

The park features several points of interest, such as the Speakers’ Corner in the north-eastern part, where anyone can talk on almost any subject and which was frequented by Karl Marx, George Orwell and other historical figures. The Princess Diana Memorial Fountain is also located within the park.

Hyde Park also offers plenty of areas to play sports, as well boating on The Serpentine pond in the middle. With busy London areas such as Mayfair, Belgravia and Knightsbridge right next door to the park, there are many restaurants and cafés to grab a bite at all around, and the public transport connections are excellent.

Reviews of Hyde Park

Bucket-list London park, nice to have a big green space like this in the heart of the city. It's usually pretty busy, so not the most relaxing, but still nice.

A classic in London, great for a stroll on a nice day. Has lots of activities and sections, as well as a great lake
