Surrey Hills
Since 1958, the Surrey Hills has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It covers 422km of land and is a place for jaw-dropping views of the English countryside. Hikers will enjoy it here, with peaks, ponds, and rivers in the area. From fab photo opportunities to just getting out in the fresh air, this national park won’t disappoint.
There are a large number of walking trails you can follow here depending on how long or challenging you’d like a walk to be – some trails stretch for over 150 miles. Depending on which route you take, you might see the dramatic ruins of an old castle, imposing hilltop monuments, ancient trees and woodland, windmills, and magical follies from the 19th century. If you enjoy spotting wildlife, you’ll notice plenty of it here in the undisturbed landscape.
Around the area you’ll discover various charming market towns with their own shops, eateries, hotels, and attractions. If you really want to immerse yourself in the impressive landscape, in the Surrey Hills there are various campsites that make convenient places to stop if you’re touring one of the longer walking trails. The area has an ambitious arts programme as well, with festivals, events, and exhibitions taking place throughout the year. Whether you’re making a day trip from London or you want to get away for a few days to a place that’s full of heritage and natural wonder, visiting this part of the country will give you plenty of things to see and do and new places to explore.
