Trivia: Apparently, the old Broadway Market is rumoured to be the inspiration behind Albert Square in EastEnders.

Broadway Market takes over a Victorian street in Hackney, setting up stall after stall of delicious street food, fresh ingredients and more. With smells wafting all over the trendy area, crowds are quick to arrive, turning the market into a social gathering for the local community as much as a place to grab a bite and stock up on fresh produce.

Broadway Market's origins date back as far as 1,000 BC, when the street it occupies today was a vital supply route for the ancient settlement that later became the Roman city of Londinium. The market launched in the Victorian era, then fought off demolition and various other obstacles in the 1980s and 1990s. Finally revived in 2004, it numbers more than 150 traders today. These include an assortment of street food vendors whipping up delicacies from all over the world, such as Scotch eggs, burgers, falafel, pad Thai, eastern European small bites and much more. Decadent treats such as cannoli, brownies and waffles abound in copious amounts as well.

You can get your weekly shop done at stalls selling fresh fruit and veg, cured meat, seafood, baked goods, wheels of cheese and more, as well as load up on non-perishable items such as beauty products and handcrafted homeware, browse vintage clothing, books and vinyl records, or find jewellery and art to pretty up yourself or your home. And if you somehow don't find what you're looking for there, you can pop into one of the many shops that line the street, from hairdressers to estate agents.

Really cool street market with lots of tasty food to try. It can get very busy but has a good bustling atmosphere. I love the cheese stall here, the lady working there is lovely and gives out loads of samples.

Best market in East London, a good mix of food court, deli and craft market, so there is something for everyone. Gets busy on sunny weekend days, lively atmosphere and good for a nice weekend lunch
