The National Restaurant Awards 2024 are being held in London on 10th June and the nominees for Opening of the Year have been announced. Nine restaurants nationwide have been shortlisted for the award, with five of them being based in the capital. Restaurants in Bristol, Jersey, Manchester, and Edinburgh are also included in the shortlist.
The London-based nominees start with Chishuru, which opened in new expanded premises in Fitzrovia last September and gained its first Michelin star earlier this year, making head chef Adejoké Bakare the first black female chef in the UK to be awarded one. Next up is Mountain, which opened in Beak Street in July 2023 and has gained a serious reputation for its traditional Spanish cuisine.
Another nominee is Sune in Hackney, serving modern European dishes and a lengthy natural wine list. This restaurant opened in November. Then there's The Devonshire in Soho, which also opened in November. This is a traditional pub that also serves upscale contemporary pub food. The final nominee from London is The Dover in Mayfair, an NYC-style Italian restaurant dishing up elevated version of Italian classics. We look forward to finding out who wins this award, as well as all the other categories, in June.
