Ask a vegetarian or vegan Londoner for a restaurant recommendation and there's a good chance that they'll send you off to Mildreds. First opened in Soho back in the 80s, these guys were doing meat-free food long before it was cool. Fast-forward to the 21st century and the group started expanding, opening new branches around the capital to evolve into a mini-chain, switching from being a vegetarian restaurant to a 100% vegan establishment, and opening Mallow, a spin-off that now has two sites in London.
The good news for Mildreds fans is that their global plant-based dishes will become even more accessible in 2024, with two new locations set to open in Wimbledon and Victoria. The Wimbledon branch will also be the launchpad for Mildred's new vegan bakery concept, MiMA, offering fresh pastries, open sandwiches, and desserts, along with top quality coffee.
Both of the new restaurant locations will have space for more than 100 diners at a time, as well as having terraces for al fresco meals. Diners can also expect Mildreds' familiar changing menus of globally-inspired plant-based recipes, including breakfast and weekend brunch and meals just for kids. Exact opening dates are yet to be confirmed but the new restaurants are expected to open early in 2024.
