The Fox & Grapes

Upmarket gastropub dining by TV chef

The Fox & Grapes is Wimbledon's only independent local, combining pub hospitality, elevated gastronomy and boutique lodging in a former coaching inn building next to Wimbledon Common. The menu is overseen by Michelin-starred TV chef Paul Merrett, who adds his trademark Asian twist to seasonally inspired British cuisine. The food is served in a dining room that's divided by a grand central bar into an airy space with an open kitchen and a more intimate country-style pub area.

Cent Anni

Italian evergreens

Cent Anni is a modern Italian eatery in Wimbledon Village, serving freshly baked pizzas with various toppings, handmade pasta in classic sauces such as carbonara and ragu, and other authentic Italian delicacies, from veal Milanese to parmigiana. You can slide into one of the booths and enjoy classic cocktails, Italian craft beers and fine wines from around the globe with your meal.

The Black Lamb

Welcome to the countryside

A new venture from the successful Gladwin Brothers, The Black Lamb is an all-day bistro in Wimbledon that takes inspiration from all over the world, using global flavours and techniques to elevate quality British produce. The stylishly rustic spot is especially lively on weekends, when they also do brunch and roasts.

Patara

Fine dining via Thailand

The Wimbledon Village branch of the Patara restaurants boasts an outdoor terrace for soaking up the sun, as well as an elegant contemporary interior with decorative Thai flourishes. The restaurant takes a fine dining approach to traditional Thai cuisine, serving refined takes on favourites such as curries, satay and pad Thai, along with bolder options. The dishes are served in eye-catching, Insta-worthy arrangements that further enhance the experience.

The Alexandra

The heart of the community

The beloved Alexandra pub next to Wimbledon Station is a lively, busy establishment spanning a variety of spaces, from a sports bar to a rooftop terrace with its own burger shack. Lunch and dinner, including traditional Sunday roasts, are served in the Lounge Bar, a warm, elegant space with exposed brick walls and wooden furnishings. The menu champions hearty casual grub such as pies, burgers and steak, with a range of starters, sides, sharers and puddings available as well.

The Orangery

Bringing the outdoors in

Thanks to its large windows opening onto verdant Cannizaro Park and flooding the interior with light, The Orangery ensures a splendid setting for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Part of the luxury boutique Hotel du Vin in the 19th century Cannizaro House, the restaurant serves an à la carte menu packed with Mediterranean freshness and Italian classics. A more traditional British breakfast is served as well, and you can quench your thirst with signature cocktails, fine wines and other beverages.

Chango Empanadas

Authentic South American pasties

Popular empanada purveyor Chango made a name for itself with its bakeries and pop-up market appearances before launching its first permanent restaurant in Wimbledon. At the snug rustic eatery, the focus is still on the tasty Argentinian snacks, accompanied by a selection of Spanish-style tapas and fine Argentinian wines. You can eat in or grab an empanada for later – heating them up at home is easy.

Maison St Cassien

Unexpected celeb hotspot

An unassuming eatery on Wimbledon's High Street, Maison St Cassien counts an impressive roster of tennis players and celebs among its patrons, from Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova to Antonio Banderas and the Beckhams. Despite the upmarket clientele, it remains a welcoming, affordable all-day restaurant, serving a varied menu of specialities from around the Mediterranean from morning until the early evening.

601 Queen's Rd

Sustainable, social brunching

An all-day restaurant and bar with a bright, elegant interior and a first-floor roof terrace, 601 Queen's Rd is a top Wimbledon choice for socialising over brunch or a few drinks. Sourcing its ingredients from sustainable producers, the restaurant serves a varied menu of favs from around the world, from toasts and egg dishes to sharing plates, salads and mains such as lamb pie. Signature cocktails and other drinks are available at the bar, and you can even indulge in bottomless brunch.

The Ivy

Reliable British staple

Richard Caring's Ivy restaurants are a mainstay of London dining, serving tasty British cuisine at prices lower than the fine dining setting would indicate. The Ivy Café in Wimbledon Village follows the same formula, offering casual all-day dining in an elegant Art Deco setting with banquettes. The menu ranges from lighter lunch fare such as sandwiches and salads to signature Ivy staples such as shepherd's pie or fish ‘n' chips. You can also treat yourself to afternoon tea on the verdant garden terrace, or book the private room for a special event.

Light House

Fine global fare and plenty of wine

Light House is a critically acclaimed Wimbledon eatery that launched in 1999. The contemporary restaurant is housed in a suitably bright, spacious venue, with framed artwork adorning the walls. The menu changes daily, taking its cue from seasonal ingredients, and might include dishes such as steamed curried mussels, pancetta-wrapped hake and treacle tart. There's an extensive list of fine vintages from around the world to pair with your meal, and live jazz dinners are hosted on a monthly basis.

Giggling Squid

Thai seafood experts

The popular nationwide chain Giggling Squid established a foothold in London with its first branch in Wimbledon Village, a vibrant, colourful spot with botanically-inspired decor and an enchanting garden vibe. The focus at Giggling Squid is on seafood-based Thai delicacies such as seafood curry, Thai salmon nests or smoked pepper mackerel, with more traditional dishes served as well. Vegan and vegetarian options are also available.

Megan's

Award-winning brunch spot

The Megan's restaurants have been voted the best brunch in London on several occasions, and for good reason. Their Mediterranean-inspired menu is chock-full of the classics, from eggs Benedict to shakshuka-baked eggs with halloumi, and you can add bottomless prosecco for added frivolity. The general atmosphere and design of the venue are as impressive as the food – think draped foliage, wooden furnishings and hanging wicker lights.

Dalchini

Pioneering Indo-Chinese cuisine

Dalchini launched in 2000 as the first restaurant in the country to specialise in authentic Chinese Hakka cuisine. This unique culinary fusion brings Indian spices and aromas together with Chinese ingredients and textures, resulting in intriguing delicacies such as Szechuan Paneer, Hakka Chilli Chicken and Seafood Hakka Noodles. The bright dining establishment is located next to Wimbledon Park and offers takeaway as well.

Thai Tho

Thai food for tennis fans

At one point, chef Nicky Santichatsak ran a dozen award-winning Thai Tho restaurants around the South West London area, catering to the likes of the Thai Royal Family, among others. She's scaled down since, focusing on her family. The Wimbledon branch is one of the few remaining Thai Thos and a regular on the pro tennis circuit, as evidenced by the tennis memorabilia decorating the place. Expect to catch the likes of the Williams sisters or Maria Sharapova tucking into curries, stir fries, noodles and other Thai specialities here come tournament time.

Sticks'n'Sushi

Intricate sushi art

Sticks'n'Sushi combines Scandi decor with Japanese cuisine, with the Wimbledon branch inspired by the former carriage factory it inhabits. The food here is as picturesque as it is tasty, with each carefully constructed plateful of raw fish, fresh veg and grilled meat bringing to mind a piece of art. The menu revolves around traditional sushi rolls, as well as yakitori, grilled skewers of meat and vegetables.
