Din Tai Fung

Taiwanese dishes

Din Tai Fung in Covent Garden is the restaurant's flagship London store, spanning across two spacious floors. It's decorated with original oriental pieces like handcrafted Chinese wood carvings taken from old buildings across China. The menu is brimming with Taiwanese dishes, like their famous xiaolongbao, each individually hand-rolled and folded with exactly 18 folds.

Xi'an Biang Biang Noodles

Hand-pulled belt noodles

Xi'an Biang Biang Noodles caused quite a scene when they landed in London some years ago, thanks to their chewy, doughy, hand-stretched noodles. The word "biang" refers to the noise the belt noodles make as they're slapped against the counter while they're being stretched. They are then served with various toppings like cumin lamb, or beef, with a range of sides to accompany them, such as smashed cucumber and black fungus in coriander. It's a casual spot where you can dine in or take away.

Redfarm

Playful dim sum

RedFarm brings playful modern Chinese fare to Covent Garden. This award-winning restaurant is run by Chef Joe Ng and Ed Schoenfeld, who are renowned for their Chinese culinary excellence. They've got a strong presence in the US and have been voted the top-rated Chinese in the country. Go here for dim sum shaped like playful figures, dishes made with local, seasonal ingredients, and grilled and marinated meats.

Fatt Pundit

Indo-Chinese fusion fare

Fat Punditt in Covent Garden serves Indo-Chinese cuisine created by Southern Chinese migrants from the Tangra part of Kolkata. This unique cuisine resulted from the Hakka people migrating to India from the Chinese province of Canton, bringing their food along with them. Sharing plates is a highlight here, and classics like momos and other fiery dishes are a highlight, all served once they're ready.

Inamo

A meal from the future

If you like your meal a little bit futuristic, Inamo is the place to go. Covent Garden's high-tech Asian fusion restaurant uses state-of-the-art touch-sensitive tables where you can order delicious pan-Asian dishes straight to your table. The menu boasts classics like sushi, char siu buns, crispy duck pancakes, and refreshing cocktails.

Xi Home Dumplings Bay

Northeastern dim sum

It's all about authentic Northeastern Chinese dumplings at Xi Home Dumplings Bay, all handmade using fresh ingredients. Dumplings are the star of the show here, but the menu also boasts a selection of other tasty options, like Chinese steamed buns, crispy pancakes and noodles. There are around 20 types of dumplings to choose from, including their famous jade lobster dumpling and spicy pork. It's pretty laid-back but you might want to make a booking prior to visiting as it can get busy.

Lanzhou Noodle Bar

Noods and dim sum

Covent Garden has a few hand-pulled noodle spots, including this one near Leicester Square tube station. People come here for the authentic hand-pulled noodles in a pared-back, buzzy setting. Choose from a wide selection of noodle dishes served with things like crispy beef and egg. Noodles take centre stage, but there are also other options, such as rice dishes, soup, and dim sum.
