Abney Park Cemetery
One of London’s Magnificent Seven cemeteries, tranquil havens providing respite in a historic, atmospheric environment, Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington features elaborate monuments, mausoleums and memorials in a landscaped setting. It is recognised as being of European importance and also has one of the earliest Egyptian Revival entrances in the world.
One of my favourite places in London. I moved next door to this cemetery, and then I found out I have a relative buried here! It's beautiful, wildly overgrown and steeped in history. The first British woman to make a solo balloon flight (Margaret Watson) is buried here, as is William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army.
