It’s hard to believe this wild oasis is just a short journey from the busiest parts of London away, but taking in the view from Parliament Hill or going for a swim in the Ponds is as much as part of the London experience as a stroll around Westminster or shopping on Oxford Street.

Just four miles from Trafalgar Square, Hampstead Heath covers 800 acres of wild landscape, encompassing everything from shady woodland to hilltop meadows and refreshing ponds. In addition to inspiring The Chronicles of Narnia and offering usual park activities such as strolling, jogging, cycling, sports or just lying in the grass, the large park includes several sights that are well worth a visit.

For starters, you can make your way up Parliament Hill to take in one of the most splendid – and free – views of the London skyline around. Especially on sunny days, you can expect the hilltop viewpoint to be full of locals and tourists alike, lounging around on the grass and enjoying the panorama.

Near Parliament Hill, the male, female and mixed Hampstead Ponds provide refreshing year-round swimming. It’s worth booking your dip in advance, as the ponds are extremely popular among Londoners of all ages.

On the northern end of the park, next to Highgate, the Kenwood manor house is a hidden London gem with landscaped gardens, a world-class art collection and a relaxing café.

Finally, cross Spaniards Road into the adjacent Golders Hill Park and walk the beautiful Hill Garden Pergola while looking out over Hampstead Heath – it’s a great setting for a photo.
