The guide to Malmö's best julbord

Christmas host Robin Paulsson has invited his friends, singer Michael Sosinski from the Malmö band Boogie Fever and comedians Jessica Persson and Tomas Kaminski, to a Christmas show in classic talkshow style, with music, magic and comedy. Christmas food is served in buffet courses, to the table, with classic dishes to share. This promises to be an exclusive, festive evening.

A festive evening at Utmaningarnas Hus means delicious Christmas food, activities and lots of laughs. Guests enjoy two hours of various team challenges on arrival, followed by a classic julbord with a modern twist. Award-winning chef Daniel Pembert from Pembert & Company has created the menu. Add a pairing drinks package for the ultimate experience. 

To celebrate the season, Kasai lays out a luxurious, sustainable julbord, complete with one of the city's best views. All food is served direct from the kitchen to the table and consists of five courses with Japanese flavours to be shared by the whole table.

Glasklart is celebrating 21 years with a musical journey back to the early 00s – ie. the launch of the pop, rock, R&B, hip hop and heavy metal that characterised the 2000s. Artists Therese Löf, Mattias Olofsson and Sara Lauinger will perform, accompanied by Glasklart's house band, with songs we all know and can sing along to. Enjoy an entire evening of Christmas food and entertainment, which continues throughout the night with a DJ and dance floor.

Tuck into the delicious flavours of the season surrounded by vaulted brick walls, candlelight and atmospheric music at Sankt Markus Vinkällare. There's a pickled herring table, hot dishes, desserts, cheese buffet and more, and they offer vegan alternatives. On Sundays, Father Christmas pays a visit and hands out presents to small guests.

At Bouchon, Christmas dinner transports you a journey to a warmer climate. A traditional gratinée onion soup for starters, guinea fowl with bacon, Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes for the main course, and Riz-au-lait to round off the festivities. The menu does not need to be pre-ordered if there are fewer than eleven people, while groups of 11-40 are asked to pre-book.

Celebrate a green and sustainable Christmas at Botildenborg. The Christmas buffet is full of locally-produced, green dishes from all over the world. Come by for Christmas lunch or dinner, or why not combine your meal with a cookery event or some environmentally-friendly arts and crafts? Botildenborg mainly takes bookings from companies and large pre-booked parties but small groups are also welcome on selected evenings in December. 

Why not combine a French-style julbord with fun activities at Boulebar this year? Their French julbord is a four-course dinner, either meat or vegetarian, with French cheeses and desserts as well as a game of boules with a guide. Boulebar's julbord is ideal for both large and small groups.

At Havshotellet's restaurant Vessel, Christmas is celebrated with a traditional Christmas buffet filled with favourites such as ham, meatballs, home-smoked salmon and prawns, as well as a completely vegetarian section. To round off the meal, pay a visit to their generous dessert and sweetie table. Enjoy your festive flavours against a backdrop of views over Limhamn harbour. 

Clarion Hotel continues to celebrate Christmas with a film theme, and this year it's 'Die Hard' that takes centre stage. It promises to be an evening filled with action, humour and music under the direction of the duo Cornelius Löfmark and Elton Bolton. Of course, there will be food too: led by Joakim Schaffer, Executive Chef at Malmö Live, they have created a menu featuring both international influences and classic Christmas flavours. A fun alternative for those looking for a Christmas buffet that's a little different.

Combining a Christmas buffet with a moderately strenuous activity is never a bad idea. Big Bowl on Östra Förstadsgatan serve up a festive dining experience, combined with an hour's bowling - although you can of course come just for the food. As well as the classics, there is a whole vegetarian and vegan section as well as a pork-free section with Middle Eastern influences, and on Wednesday to Saturday there's also a smoking expert on hand carving up freshly-smoked meat. 

In the vaulted cellars of Malmö's historic city hall, chefs serve a traditional, classic julbord at lunch and dinner. Hot dishes include all the favourites, such as prinskorv chipolatas, salmon and Christmas ham, followed by glögg mulled wine and coffee.

With views over Limhamn's waters, you can enjoy a Christmas buffet that features both classic and modern dishes. Kajuteriet's julbord includes everything from pickled herring and Christmas ham to saffron-marinated mussels and lobster soup, as well as cheeses and desserts. If you prefer a festive brunch, you should come here on a Sunday in December, when they'll be serving both sweet and savoury Christmas dishes.

Luftkastellet invites you to this year's edition of the Rock 'N' Roll Xmas Party, featuring the artist Jay Smith at the helm. Together with Simon Andersson and Linda Varg, the trio presents a proper show filled with music and laughter. They'll also be serving a Skåne-style Christmas buffet, offering traditional flavours but with a modern twist. After the show, there will be an after-party with a DJ.

At O'Learys Entré, the Christmas buffet is just as fun as it is tasty. It includes 55 minutes of bowling – perfect if you want to ease off that food coma with some moderately intense movement. Food-wise, as well as the classics there's a whole section with vegetarian and vegan Christmas dishes on the buffet, and it can all be topped off with drinks packages of various sizes. 

At Årstiderna, they cherish the community and joy of the festive season, which is why they serve a sharing julbord where smaller groups are seated together in the cellar, enjoying traditional festive dishes served directly at the table. Dishes are then shared with each other sharing-style – making for a cosier and more intimate experience. For groups of at least ten people, they serve a regular julbord upstairs in the banquet halls, and you can also choose the festive menu featuring three or four Christmas-inspired dishes.

This year, Slagthuset isn't just hosting a Christmas buffet show, you can also choose between a grand 50th anniversary celebration of ABBA featuring all the legendary hits, and a lively performance with Isaac And The Soul Company. Both options start with a glögg mingle and a well-filled Christmas buffet, and conclude with an afterparty set to music by a DJ.
