The Michelin Guide has revealed the recipients of this year's highly coveted awards for restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland, and it was quite a good year for London.
A Michelin star is considered the pinnacle of culinary accolades, and the excitement builds to a fever pitch before the annual announcement. Chefs eagerly await the verdict that could validate years of dedication and skill, diners hope their beloved local spot will gain the recognition they feel it deserves, seasoned Michelin-starred restaurateurs anxiously prepare, hoping to hold onto their stars or hope to gain another, and local authorities cross their fingers for the influx of gourmet tourism. In essence, the Michelin Guide awards are a Big Deal™ in the culinary world.
The new recipients of Michelin stars and green stars in Great Britain and Ireland were revealed at an awards ceremony held at the renowned Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow on 10 February, marking the first time the event was held in Scotland.
It was certainly a good year for London at the Michelin Awards, with the capital receiving a new batch of one-star restaurants, as well as a pair of its established eateries being promoted to two stars. This all helps offset the loss of some stars over the past year, either through closure (Locanda Locatelli, La Dame de Pic) or having their stars removed as part of the yearly update (Kai, City Social).
Without further ado, here are all the new Michelin starred-restaurants in London.
