It can be hard to choose the most impressive part of Sketch, the 18th-century townhouse near Oxford Circus that contains different spaces offering different experiences, each decorated in a jaw-dropping manner. The safest bet, though, is probably the Glade, a striking artistic impression of an enchanted forest that deserves a place on just about any list of the most beautiful restaurants in London.
It's easy to see why as soon as you step through the velvet drapes and find yourself surrounded by gorgeous decoupage woodland, with a soft carpet and vivid bursts of colour adding to the hushed, magical setting.
During the day, The Glade is primarily a breakfast and lunch venue, transitioning into a place to enjoy cocktails in the evening – though you can get those earlier as well, of course. The breakfast menu offers a wide range of egg-based dishes and other favourites like fresh pastries, granola, or the signature French toast, while the set lunch menu revolves around seasonal European dishes like Guinness Irish stew or lemon sole à la Grenobloise. The Glade also serves an elevated afternoon tea combining English tradition with French craft.
The constantly evolving cocktail menu at The Glade, meanwhile, balances tradition with innovation, starting with timeless original recipes and refining them through a threefold curation – the Roots version pays homage to the classics, the Alchemy version highlights signature twists, and the Essence selection distils them into a non-alcoholic option. Beautiful interiors, worth seeing for yourself. The breakfast food was nice enough, but you can get better in London at this price.
