Spanish restaurant

The Michelin-starred Sabor is spread out across two floors and features three distinct areas, spanning the diverse range of Spanish cuisine in one award-winning location.

The restaurant and bar in Soho was co-founded by the former executive chef and the operations director of the likewise Michelin-starred Barrafina, so the acclaim for their new venture is hardly surprising. Sabor aims to provide an overview of Spain’s varied flavours and settings, starting with The Counter on the ground floor.

As suggested by the name, The Counter seats you behind the bar surrounding the open kitchen, where the chefs prepare an array of tapas dishes such as piquillo croquetas and pan tomate. You can choose from various meat and vegetable specialties from across Spain as well, while the in-house fishmonger is in charge of a daily fish menu.

One floor up, the stylish El Asador restaurant features banquette seating and looks over the open kitchen. The focus here is on Galician and Castilian dishes cooked in the traditional wood-fired oven or “asador”, for example suckling pig or lamb cutlets. There’s also an array of upmarket tapas to share with the table, for example confit rabbit shoulder or grilled squid.

If you’re after a quicker bite or just drinks, Sabor’s bar area on the ground floor offers a selection of tapas and a sizeable array of Spanish wines, sherries, cocktails, spirits and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Didn't book ahead but managed to snag the last spot downstairs at the counter when they opened for dinner. The tapas at Sabor are incredible, better even than just about anything I've ever had in Spain, and it has the same kind of slightly chaotic, lively vibe as places there.

Spanish food done to perfection, would recommend the downstairs counter as it is walk in and had a great vibe. the prices are also lower
