New restaurants in Gothenburg

Next door to the Michelin-starred restaurant Project, The Side Project is more of a wine bar than a restaurant. Here you can relax with small plates, cheese and charcuterie paired with carefully selected wines. The Side Project opens in Törnrosa's old premises and is run by Cameron and Anna Irving, who also run Miss Miso.

Food influencer Nikola Zivkovic is taking the leap from guiding Gothenburgers to opening this new venture in Göteborg Grand Central. The aim is to create a restaurant and bar with high quality, good service and an authentic vibe where guests can come all day and enjoy the food, drinks and atmosphere.

This new neighbourhood restaurant is opening in the cosy building that used to house Sigfrids, right in the heart of Örgryte. The premises have been fully renovated and given a fresh new look ahead of the opening.

The world's best birria tacos, that's what's promised when this street food spot opens on Stampgatan 48 near Nya Ullevi. As the name suggests, inspiration comes from both Mexico and South Korea, so if you're curious about what it's about you now know where to find them.

Dupont is the name of a new restaurant with Southern European roots that's set to be open all day for both business guests and private parties. The trio from atNordhem is behind the concept and they want to create a place where you can pop in at any time of day, and where good food, fine wines and warm hospitality are at the heart of everything they do.

Bar Schiacciate is already well-established in Stockholm, where they have several branches. This restaurant on Lindholmsallén is the very first in Gothenburg. The focus is entirely on Italian sandwiches made with quality ingredients, to eat in or take away. 

Karlatornet, at 246 metres and 74 floors, is the tallest residential building in the Nordic countries. It also houses the restaurant Exo, which you can find on the 69th (!) floor. They serve modern gastronomy with international influences, all with a fantastic view over Gothenburg.

In the former premises of Magic Flamingos, work is underway to hatch a new concept called Little Pizza. The restaurateurs behind Botánico and Brasserie Voyage are at the helm.

Vassen Market will offer Gothenburgers a vibrant meeting place where culture and the flavours of the world come together. Street food, beer, cocktails, tattoo artists, live music, and skate culture coexist in the 6,500 square metre space in Hisingen.

The two brothers Hannes and Joel Persson run the show at the newly opened Lanterne Rouge in Linné. At first they'll be serving a four-course menu with ingredients from farms and producers in the local area. If you want to drink wine, this is also a top spot. 

Right in the centre of Gothenburg is the restaurant FAVO, where they focus on a modern street-food concept with dine-in, takeaway and delivery options. FAVO is part of a chain and can also be found in several other Swedish cities.

Are you looking for a social, welcoming atmosphere combined with quality drinks and food? Then Järntorget 6 is an address to remember. Bar Alkov bar and bistro is in Hjördis's old premises, and the concept is created by the duo Alvin and Moritz. They serve luxurious cocktails, fine wines and small plates in relaxed surroundings from Wednesdays to Sundays.

The old corner premises of Pils in Linné is now home to this Spanish restaurant run by chef Hugo Jude. With Somni, he's created a gathering place for anyone who wants to enjoy exciting Mediterranean food and drink fine wines, in pleasant, friendly surroundings.

Emanuela Gjinesha is known from “Masterchef Sweden” and runs the newly opened Piada Mia on Drottninggatan in Gothenburg. Piada is a type of Italian warm flatbread that can be filled with various tasty fillings, for example cheese and ham.

Bram's Burgers started out as a food truck in Kista outside Stockholm, with two brothers at the helm. The concept became popular and the burgers are now known as some of the best in the country – so it's lucky the food truck has spawned several restaurants, including this one in Gothenburg.

Johanna steakhouse is a rooftop restaurant with views over the skyline of Gothenburg, where grilled food takes centre stage. Guests can enjoy meat, fish, vegetables, and seafood grilled over an open fire, as well as sipping cocktails at the bar. Johanna also offers several private dining rooms and a terrace.

It's always as exciting when a food truck takes the leap and opens up a proper restaurant. This is what's happening for the Oss Bröd Emellan food truck, which, with their restaurant opening, is removing the word 'bread' from its name. Oss Bröd Emellan is opening on Chapman's Square, and just like before you'll be able to enjoy exciting street food, though in the form of plated dishes rather than sandwiches. Choose from smaller and larger dishes, usually cooked on the grill.

You can now order Paradiset-signature pizzas on Sveaplan. The new branch opened its doors in March 2026, and you can feast on pizzas inspired by Sicily here. The menu blends classics with more modern variants, which can of course be ordered with a gluten-free base, along with vegan options.

From March 2026, you can enjoy Eastern European cuisine at Bar Bez Mleczny on Kungsgatan 10. The focus here is on plant-based and Slavic home cooking, and the restaurant is run by the team from the vegan food truck Papi's Pierogi.

Nordic Taste Lab is described as a hub for Nordic flavours, sustainability, and food innovation, where the mission is to test new flavour combinations and methods, featuring local ingredients. Guests are invited to participate and influence the development through feedback. Behind the restaurant is Olympic chef Krister Dahl.

Neighbourhood bistro Brevé is opening on Viktoriagatan, where French and Swedish culinary traditions will blend in the kitchen. The cooking also involves equal parts soul and heart, to create a genuine taste experience for the guests.

Chapmans Lycka is opening in the former premises of I Sing Sing in Majorna. Ambitions are high and the thresholds are low, with a strong focus on creating a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. In April, the karaoke bar Sångfågeln is also opening downstairs, so you can carry on the evening. 

A slice of Italy comes to Gothenburg as Capricci opens its doors on Bastionsplatsen. It promises to be an Italian oasis with the scent of freshly baked pizza, a lively atmosphere, and Italian flavours on the plate.

Discover a little slice of Lebanon at Hermel on Plantagegatan in Gothenburg. The restaurant shares its name with a town in north-eastern Lebanon and a visit here promises a Lebanese culinary journey with a menu that offers meze, grilled dishes, and sweet pastries.

At Gaest, a slightly unusual combo is the order of the day: Danish and Italian cuisine! The love for bread and beer is strong here, so on the menu you'll find both smørrebrød and pizza, as well as, of course, beer, wine, and bubbles.

At the beginning of 2026, the doors to the neighbourhood restaurant Restaurant Bo will open on Masthamnsgatan. The team behind sibling restaurant Adamo is behind the venture.

The Malt House inn opens its doors on pub-dense Södra Vägen, but it feels more like a place you'd find in the British countryside rather than Gothenburg. Enjoy heartily prepared comfort food, find your favourite among 35 different types of draft beer, and just have a good time at this welcoming gastropub.

The Asian street food chain Omami is expanding with a restaurant at the central train station. Dig into bao buns, bowls, sushi, and other tasty dishes.

Sandwiches are hotter than ever and you'll find delicious ones at the new Mackbaren 12 on Vallgatan. Hop up at the bar and tuck into their handmade sandwiches which include everything from “Italiano” to “Korean Chicken”.

The new addition to Stora Saluhallen food market is a slightly more upscale lunch restaurant. At Lilla Brasseriet, you can enjoy French-inspired lunch dishes and sip a glass of champagne if you fancy.

Svarta Hästen, which has been in Stockholm for a few years and is part of the Stureplansgruppen restaurant group, is opening in Gothenburg. This is Gothenburg's first wine bar with a focus on chess, and the menu also features sandwiches created in collaboration with Hasselssons.

Crispy pizzas and juicy smash burgers are the order of the day at the newly opened Slice & Smash in Örgryte. All according to the motto “hungry in, happy out”. Dine in or order delivery.

Gothenburg welcomes more Korean street food this autumn as the food truck K-Bunsik expands and opens a restaurant on Mölndalsvägen.

At this lunch restaurant Bistro 3 in Lindholmen, the focus is on salads and wraps to take away or enjoy on-site. The idea is to make simple food really tasty.

Mugwort's has moved in with Vegabryggeriet to Ringön, where Mugwort's serves BBQ and Vegabryggeriet serves beer. Perfect for anyone who fancies American comfort food and a taproom with a wide selection of beers all in one place.

A varied menu with exciting flavours and Italian street food in the restaurant's own style – that's what you can expect at Fermento, the latest addition to the restaurant scene on Norra Hamngatan.

In autumn 2025, the team behind Jinx is taking the leap from food truck to restaurant when they open on the corner of Stampgatan/Folkungagatan. In the 300-square-metre space, Jinx will serve an exciting food selection with Asian influences.

Friends and chefs Mats Nordström and Johan Björkman have launched a joint project called Björkmans Skafferi. In the 640 square metre space in Gullbergsvass, they offer lunch, coffee, catering, and cooking classes.

If you've been missing Big Bird and Little Meats Taqueria, New California Taco Shop is a welcome addition to Gothenburg's restaurant scene. The tacoria is run by the same people who were behind the now-closed restaurants. 

On the ground level of the Dickson Palace, Italian restaurant Umarell is run by Oliver Ingrosso and Louise Johansson. The space includes a large dining hall, cocktail bar and wine bar. The menu features both authentic Italian cuisine and dishes that reflect the iconic surroundings.

On Mölndalsvägen, you'll find Bistro 26, a restaurant that focuses on lunch service, catering, and events. Every weekday, they serve lunch with meat, fish, and vegetarian options, both Swedish style and with international influences.

After two years of renovation, Bhoga has finally reopened its doors and can thus be classified as a new restaurant in Gothenburg. The address remains the same, Norra Hamngatan, as does the concept. Since they've been closed for such a long time, they will need to reclaim their Michelin star.

This family-friendly neighbourhood restaurant has opened up in Majorna with a focus on childhood favourites. The speciality is spaghetti Bolognese in various variations, but they also serve other types of comfort food and brew their own beer in collaboration with a local brewery. Eat dinner or hang out in the bar.

At Zenviet, sushi and poke bowls are complemented by Vietnamese classics such as phở and bún. Choose between a Japanese, Vietnamese, or mixed menu, with dishes like sashimi, spring rolls, and tataki. You can enjoy lunch and dinner here in cosy, zen-inspired surroundings.

Alan Nonell Borrone, who previously ran Bocado, has teamed up with the duo behind DINÉ Burgers to create the joint project Amano. The flavours of Mexico take centre stage here, with additional influences from Spain and Los Angeles. The menu features tacos and other colourful small plates as well as cocktails based on tequila.

Asian cuisine will be served at Yomo in Gothenburg, with the inspiration for the dishes and the atmosphere taken from 20th-century Shanghai. 

Götabergs Kök & Bar opened in the summer of 2025, a cosy local eatery in the heart of Vasa. The venture is backed by the team from Lorensbergs Fisk & Bar. As well as food, there's also a strong focus on art, with all the artworks hanging on the walls available for sale.

Just a stone's throw from the restaurant Kometen, which was previously owned by Leif Mannerström, the restaurateur and his son Sebastian are opening Mansion by Mannerström. They'll be serving proper "jaw-droppingly delicious" food where traditional dishes will take centre stage. However, surprises on the menu are also promised, including Asian influences and burgers.

Garveriet in Floda has returned in a new and even more inclusive format, aptly named 'Folket på Garveriet'. Just a half-hour's drive outside Gothenburg, you can now find a restaurant, bakery, and café all in one place, where you can come for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and freshly baked treats. 

A new Japanese izakaya is opening on Kungstorget, serving food and drinks in a vibrant environment inspired by Tokyo's nightlife. The menu includes ramen and yakitori, among other dishes.

Bamba opens the doors to yet another restaurant, this time in the historic Fixfabriken area of Majorna. As at their other branch, they will be serving traditional Swedish home-cooked dishes with a modern twist.

Wine Mechanics will be opening the doors to its urban wine bar in Gerd's old premises on Linnégatan 7, if all goes according to plan. In the small space, which accommodates around 20 seats and a small outdoor terrace, you'll be able to drink wine on tap and by the bottle, as well as enjoy food that warms the soul.

The team from Botánico and Magic Flamingo have opened a Mediterranean-inspired brasserie at Vasaplatsen 10. They serve dinner, and cocktails in an elegant setting with a sunny outdoor seating area.

Prost Bierhalle & Wirtshaus is Vasa's new beer hall, located on Viktoriagatan. In traditional German style, you can drink frothy beer from sturdy steins, as well as enjoying European cuisine and throwing darts on the dartboard. The perfect spot for a successful post-work gathering, in other words. 

Bar Human is Human's little sister spot on Kastellgatan 14, in the same building as the restaurant. The focus here is on Nordic small plates with a modern twist, based on seasonal ingredients, and they're often accompanied by suitable drinks. All served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

This spring, BLOKK is opening on Tegnérsgatan. The new restaurant will be run by the owners of Bruk cocktail bar. 

La Taqueria is a new sister restaurant to Tizne which takes over The Joint Street Food's former premises. The founders have Mexican heritage and the aim is to offer authentic flavours, with tacos galore.

In a street kitchen in Heden, Bite Me serves smash burgers and other street food influenced by flavours from around the world. Their burgers are made with locally sourced meat, and the aim is for each bite to deliver a (pleasantly) surprising explosion of flavours. Next to the street kitchen there's an outdoor seating area where you can sit down to eat; otherwise, you can just grab take away.

Kaiser is a little sister restaurant to Manfred's and has opened its doors right next to its big brother in Linné. Just as at Manfred's, food and drink from Austria take centre stage, along with a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The idea is that you should be able to drop in for a drink and some snacks, just as easily as for a long dinner with your loved ones.

At the newly reopened Hyatt Place Gothenburg Central, you'll find Blanche, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and bar with a vibrant atmosphere. Blanche is open from morning till evening and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a focus on quality and sustainability.
