Haga Christmas market

Haga Nygata is one of Gothenburg's best preserved and most charming streets, not least when decorated for Christmas. There's a rich selection of tasty treats and all kinds of festive goodies. There will also be musical entertainment and activities at the weekend Christmas markets. The Haga Christmas markets take place every Saturday and Sunday over four advent weekends.

The archipelago in Advent

Advent traditions on Hönö island

The archipelago is a particularly special place to be during the festive season. For the 16th year in a row, Hönö Klåva fishing village is arranging advent celebrations. Buy Christmas presents in the many shops and stalls, there are plenty of activities and children can pay a visit to Santa Claus. Gaze out over calm seas and granite rocks and breathe in the festive island atmosphere.

Julstaden

Christmas market on Gustav Adolfs Square

Over the last few weeks leading up to Christmas, Gustav Adolfs Square transforms into a charming winter wonderland. The Christmas market is open daily and offers everything from mulled wine and freshly baked gingerbread to Christmas cheer and cosiness. If you're looking to buy Christmas gifts you can browse through beautiful crafts, snacks, Christmas sweets, and other lovely items sold in the stalls.

Kville Saluhall

Christmas market on the island

Saluhallen has become a popular meeting place on Gothenburg's favourite island, Hisingen. The annual Christmas market, Kvillejul, is a joyful tradition and attracts many who want to buy gifts or just indulge in good food. This year, the Christmas market is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Local traders, as well as exhibitors from far and wide, are present, with everything from furniture decorations and leather jewellery to delicious cheeses and locally grown Christmas trees sharing space in the festively decorated food hall.

Tjolöholms slott

Christmas at the castle

This large castle just south of the city transforms into an old-fashioned Christmas dream around Christmas. Their classic, atmospheric market includes small-scale producers and food exhibitors from all over the country. The castle is decorated with Christmas trees, atmospheric decor and lighting that create a festive Christmas atmosphere, and children can enjoy special activities and meeting Santa Claus.

Christmas at Fabrikerna

Food, drink and crafts

For two days in December, there will be a full festive atmosphere in the Gamlestaden former factory area. Restaurants, breweries, shops and exhibitors come together to offer food, festive drinks, and the opportunity to buy everything from flowers, baked goods, chocolates, ceramics to various crafts.

Götheborg of Sweden

Christmas market onboard

This year sees the debut of a Christmas market onboard Götheborg, which is docked at Eriksberg. Just like the wooden ship, the Christmas market embraces a 18th-century style with activities for both young and old, both onboard and on the quay. On the cannon deck, visitors can enjoy glögg and festive treats in cosy surroundings, as well as take the opportunity to buy Christmas gifts or something nice for the Advent celebrations.

Nordstan

Popular city centre tradition

The Christmas market in Nordstan has been a popular annual tradition for over 50 years. You'll find masses of different exhibitors and events, as well as atmospheric concerts performed on the Christmas stage. Christmas in Nordstan kicks off with a bang on the 2nd December. There'll be handcrafts, festive delicacies, Santa, mulled wine and full-on Christmas spirit.

Vegan-friendly Papi's is organizing an entirely plant-based Christmas market on Kungstorget. Local producers and businesses can showcase both crafts and food products and, as well as shopping they also serve vegan food from several different food trucks.

At Stora Holms Säteri, they've been looking forward to the Christmas market all year, and the weekend of the second Advent it's finally happening. The market is a well-established tradition that has been held at the estate for over 45 years, offering a wide range of food and treats, crafts, art, and of course, plenty of Christmas magic.

Brännö Christmas walk

A cosy Christmas on Brännö

Brännö island hosts their annual Christmas walk accompanied by a Christmas market. Hop on the ferry from Saltholmen that will take you to Brännö Rödsten, where this year's Christmas walk awaits. The cabins on the island are open and filled with decorations, art, ceramics, jewellery, and knitted goods for sale, and there's also mulled wine, baked goods, and other delicacies – everything Christmassy, in other words.

The Christmas market at Nääs Fabriker is a perfect outing if you want to get into the Christmas spirit. The historic factory area is transformed into a winter wonderland with candlelight, trees, handcrafts, gastronomic experiences and activities.

Kronhuset & Kronhusbodarna

Traditional Christmas market

Kronhusjul is Gothenburg's oldest Christmas market, which takes place in the city's very oldest building from 1654. Over the Advent weekends, the market features various themes: sustainability, food and treats, as well as design and crafts. The Kronhusbodarna shops are open all week for Christmas gift crafting, snacks, exhibitions, and Christmas adventures.

Advent in Kvarnbyn

Crafty Christmas

When Kvarnbyn, Mölndal's historic industrial area, celebrates advent, it takes the form of a Christmas market focused on craftsmanship, history and creativity. Over three weekends, the doors to the various businesses are open, inviting the people of Gothenburg to discover studios, museums and shops, as well as participate in workshops and other activities. Each market day offers a unique programme that can be found on the website.

Auktionsverket Kulturarena

This year, à la London's Christmas design market returns to Auktionsverket Kulturarena on Tredje Långgatan. Over three days, you can shop for fashion, design and interiors from as many as 90 designers.

Göteborgs Remfabrik

Christmas market in a historic setting

Remfabriken is holding a Christmas market again this year. Over a weekend in November, various artisans will showcase their products among the old factory's machines. Browse among crafts made of textiles, wood, metal, and ceramics, and you would expect from a proper Christmas market, there will be plenty of homemade treats.
