A century of Armenian cinema: From silent movies to the genius of Parajanov

To celebrate the centenary of legendary Armenian director Sergei Parajanov and Armenian cinema, the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) is presenting an evening of early Armenian films at BFI Southbank.

The programme features Parajanov's 1967 short “Hakob Hovnatanyan” and Hamo Beknazarian's 1927 silent comedy “Shor & Shorshor”. Artyom Manukyan's genre-defying approach to cello performance combines classical and jazz genres, adding further energy to these early films.

The event is presented in partnership with the Armenian Institute, British Film Institute, and The Cinema Foundation of Armenia.
