Michel Roux Jr has announced that he will be closing his double Michelin-starred restaurant Le Gavroche in January. Open since 1967 and one of the first restaurants in the UK to be awarded a Michelin star, this place was open before London became the culinary wonderland it is today and was one of the first to offer fine French haute cuisine to the city's diners. It also launched the careers of a number of top chefs including Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing, and Marco Pierre White.
The restaurant was originally opened by Roux Jr's father and uncle but he has been at the helm since 1991. He has announced that the restaurant will be closing to give him a better work-life balance and to allow him to spend more time with his family.
Le Gavroche will continue to take bookings until it closes and from November onwards will run a series of celebratory dinners to say goodbye. Roux Jr has also stated that the restaurant's name will continue after the closure with pop-ups and events taking place both in London and overseas.
