Following the news that Kebab Queen's chef and co-owner Manu Canales will be taking a leave of absence, the inventive high-end kebab spot has announced that Masterchef: The Professionals finalist Philli Armitage-Mattin will be taking over the kitchen for a three month residency. The intimate restaurant revolutionises the dining experience, with just 10 seats at the counter and food served directly on the counter with not a plate in sight.
Up until now, the restaurant has been best-known for its fine dining interpretations of the humble kebab, as the name would suggest. However, Armitage-Mattin will be bringing a new menu to the table that includes some nods to the kebab but focuses on Asian-inspired cuisine. The tasting menu will include dishes like oysters with green nam jim, kelp, and lime leaf kombucha, a Sichuan lamb skewer, a stuffed chicken wing with chicken fat rice, and brown butter cake.
Kebab Queen opened its doors in 2019 serving intricate tasting menus that diners eat with their hands. Armitage-Mattin trained with the Gordon Ramsay Group and worked at a number of top restaurants across Asia before reaching the final of Masterchef: The Professionals in 2020. She'll begin her residency in May.
