With the cost of living crisis and the general dumpster fire recent years have been, it comes as welcome news that those who can spare a few extra quid can contribute towards helping those in need while eating out. The StreetSmart charity, which has raised over £11 million to help homeless and vulnerable people across the country since being established in 1998, has launched its 2022 campaign.
The way it works is simple: restaurants can sign up to participate in the scheme during November and December, with a voluntary £1 added to the diners’ bills. At the end of each month, these donations are passed on to StreetSmart, which then redistributes them to reputable charities fighting homelessness.
The list of participating restaurants in London is extensive and includes everything from Michelin-starred establishments such as Core by Clare Smyth and JKS Restaurants venues such as Gymkhana and Trishna to neighbourhood pizza joints such as 081 Pizzeria. Additional restaurants can still sign up as well.
Last year, the campaign raised £696,000, an impressive amount that will nonetheless hopefully be matched or surpassed this year.
