For your daily dose of 90s “where are they now” trivia, we draw your attention to Shoreditch natural wine bar Oranj, which will be hosting a residency by Marlo Snellman – the teenage protagonist of the music video for legendary Bomfunk MC's track “Freestyler” who grew up to be an acclaimed chef.
Today, the adult Marlo Snellman is a Finnish chef who runs the kitchen at Recoin, a Parisian bistro that regularly ranks high among the French capital's many eateries. According to Wikipedia, however, Snellman was a model and musician in his youth. He starred in the original music video for “Freestyler”, the massive 90s hit by Finnish hip hop group Bomfunk MC's, playing the home boy with the dreadlocks and the magical remote controller.
Still describing himself as a music and synth freak on his profile today, Snellman dabbled in music in later years but seems to have found a new calling. He'll be popping up at the Oranj wine bar in Shoreditch for ten days between 30 January and 10 February, showcasing his culinary prowess in a range of signature dishes. You can find out more about the residency and book here.
