Your typical crusty white bloomer is great but when you need a break try out all-natural bakery The Bread Station. This Hackney business specialises in organic Danish baking and has some serious pedigree - one half of the team behind this bakery is Michelin-starred chef Christoffer Hruskova, who is also the head baker.

The bread here has won awards and the same time-honoured process goes into baking every loaf. Grains are sourced from small farms throughout Britain and ground on-site using a traditional stone mill. The dough is fermented naturally to produce sourdough bread made with Nordic techniques. Go for a typical Danish dark rye, a seeded or wholemeal loaf, or The Bread Station’s classic white bread. No Danish bakery is complete without plenty of pastries, and if you’ve got a sweet tooth you’ll find lots of indulgent options here. Wholesale orders are also welcome.

As well as producing baked goods for you to take away, The Bread Station also houses a café where you can see the bakers in action. Enjoy coffee and fresh pastries or a sandwich made with the bakery’s own bread. Sandwiches are the main event here and use a variety of the bakery’s breads but the mouthwatering fillings are updated often. The regularly-changing menu has options like cheese toasties, Danish open sandwiches, soup, and pizza slices. All the food at The Bread Station is comforting, natural, and full of flavour.
