Grano is run by Chef of the Year winner Thomas Sjögren and his brother. They cook ambitious food in relaxed surroundings free from starched linen tablecloths and formal service. Come by for a glass of wine and a pizza, or a full dinner with several small plates.
This popular spot in the heart of Gothenburg opened its doors in 2018, 30 years after the owners' parents met at a hot dog stand in Granö in Norrland. Both the name and the rustic wooden interior hint at the forests of Norrland, but the flavours come mainly from Southern Europe. As well as Grano's popular posh pizzas, you can pick and choose from small plates, charcuterie, cheeses and snacks. The menu varies depending on the season, but there are also standing favourites such as the restaurant's signature pizza with pancetta, comté and lemon.
At Grano, the idea is that you should be able to enjoy cooking at a high level in relaxed surroundings, regardless of whether you round off the day with a quick pizza and wine or a full multi-course dinner. You can also stop by for a post-work beer, a glass of wine, cocktail or something to eat. From time to time, the restaurant invites guests in to serve pizza and cocktails for an evening. Larger groups who want to sit separately and have dinner can rent the Grano Studio, an intimate private dining room next door to the restaurant.
