Who says you have to be an adult to be a gourmet expert? Mayfair’s sustainable restaurant Apricity is doing away with the tired stereotype of fish fingers, chips, and peas to give young diners a brand new experience. In January the restaurant is launching 'Culinary Kids', a new five course menu designed for children, in partnership with the charity School Food Matters. A small amount from every bill at Apricity is donated to the charity already.
Just like the adult dishes on the menu, the focus is on seasonal and foraged ingredients and sustainable produce from small-scale farmers. The goal is to help children expand their tastebuds and understand more about where their food comes from. Courses include oat and fennel seed crackers with a veggie dip made from offcuts that would normally be wasted, pork dumplings, and chouxnut with baked apple.
As well as the new menu, during the February half term in 2023 Apricity will run relaxed cooking and learning sessions for kids, with a range of hands-on activities to get them interested in food and where it comes from. The restaurant wants to encourage children to try new things and get their hands dirty as they learn. With the innovative kids’ menu becoming available in a few weeks, the new year is the ideal time to try an Apricity tasting menu, happy in the knowledge that the younger members of your family won’t get left behind.
