Wandsworth Town BID has partnered with Southside Shopping Centre to host a month-long series of free events and activities this October to celebrate Black History Month.

Southside will host several exciting events throughout the month, starting with the renowned artist Kay Rufai bringing his S.M.I.L.E-ing Boys Project to Southside's upper mall with a month-long photography exhibition on 1 October. Inspired by Rufai's mission to empower young Black boys through the arts, the exhibition showcases their beaming smiles as a celebration of positivity, challenging negative media stereotypes.

On Wednesday, 30 October, Pointe Black Ballet School will perform Our Windrush Story, a tribute to the Windrush generation, their journey to the UK, and their lasting legacy. The performance blends classical ballet with Afro-Caribbean influences and features ballerinas as young as 18 months.

On Saturday, 26 October, the creator of the ethical luxury fashion brand Art of Fashion Wrapping, Fée Uhssi, will celebrate Black fashion with a spectacular show under the theme 'Reclaiming Narratives.' The event will be held on the upper mall and will also feature a performance by Vibe Squad.

Rebecca Ruddle, Centre Director at Southside Shopping Centre, commented: “Here at Southside Shopping Centre, we strive to create spaces that make a positive contribution to the local community, and enhance the lives of our guests. We encourage our guests to come down to see the range of exhibitions and events on offer, whether it be through browsing the food and wares being sold at the makers' market, attending a fashion show, or taking in the month-long photography exhibition, there's something to suit all tastes.”
