This spring, over 100 contemporary and historical artworks will be showcased at the Royal Academy of Arts, exploring themes of empire, enslavement, resistance, abolition and colonialism.
The exhibition features leading British artists of the African, Caribbean and South Asian diasporas, including Sonia Boyce, Frank Bowling and Mohini Chandra, alongside works spanning the past 250 years. Highlights include pieces by Lubaina Himid, Isaac Julien, Hew Locke, and Tavares Strachan, alongside works by El Anatsui, Barbara Walker, Kerry James Marshall, and others.
The exhibition is informed by ongoing research into the RA's colonial past, engaging around 50 associated artists on themes of migration, identity, and belonging.
