Eating out is fun and all but if you ever find yourself craving something more, top Taiwanese restaurant group Bao are releasing something you’re going to love. Already a favourite in London for their pillowy and authentic bao buns, Bao are releasing a new app to coincide with the new lunar year that’ll game-ify the dining experience.
In collaboration with hospitality tech platform Not in Game, the BAOverse app will allow users to select a virtual character, explore the digital universe, and unlock real rewards and perks. The design uses the retro gaming style that Bao is already known for. Users can level up by exploring new areas and unlocking benefits like a £5 cocktail or queue-jumping privileges.
The BAOverse app is designed to enhance the real life experience of dining at the group’s restaurants. Spending £1 in a Bao restaurant will earn digital BAOcoin. This can be used to buy digital items in the app such as bao dumplings or beers. Digital items can then be traded for real products in the restaurant. If you’re a big fan of the food at Bao, joining the app could be a great move – the group estimates that regularly using the app and claiming rewards could boost a customer’s spending power by as much as 20%. If you can’t resist some free bao or you just want to explore the next step in dining, the app will be available to download from 20th January.
