If you’re a fan of classic Dean Street restaurant Quo Vadis there’s some good news for 2023 – bagging a table is about to become a bit easier. The venue is undergoing a refurbishment that will double its capacity to 40 guests at a time. The restaurant will be closing for a few weeks from 2nd January for work to be done on the space, and it’s due to reopen on 8th February.
Housing a private members club as well as the restaurant, the site is the former home of Karl Marx and was once a brothel. Today it’s a bright and stylish restaurant with distinctive stained glass windows, which are going to stay put despite the refurbishment. The building’s exterior is also home to one of the Seven Noses of Soho, an art installation from 1997, and this will also remain in place.
Co-owner James Hart is leading the redesign of Quo Vadis. The current revolving door will be replaced with a new red front door with a dramatic brass knocker. The dining room will get an update with red Georgian-style dining sofas and a reclaimed wooden floor, intended to create a more welcoming feel.
There are still a few weeks to book a table if you want to savour Quo Vadis before it changes. The members club at the venue will be unaffected during the refurbishment.
