At least, that's what we're surmising from the results of the 2023 City A.M. Awards, which were handed out at the Guildhall on Thursday 2 March.
The City A.M. Awards or, as we prefer to call them, the Square Mile Oscars, celebrate the best of the financial district and London's business community, with top awards categories including Insurance Company of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, and Bank of the Year. Admittedly, this is a rather dry selection to go looking for food tips in, but in a somewhat surprising twist, a restaurant company did rise to the top.
In the Business of the Year category, which looks for “the best of the best – the companies that have navigated economic headwinds and come out ahead”, the top honour went to Rare Restaurants, the group behind impress-a-potential-client hotspots Gaucho and M Restaurants. What is more, they beat out some very stiff competition on the way, with the other finalists including impress-a-potential-spouse car manufacturer Rolls-Royce, impress-your-bank-statement supermarket retailer Lidl, impress-your-investors financial services platform Marex, and impress-your-energy-bill business energy supplier Yu.
Not a bad omen at all, considering Rare Restaurants, which remains committed to sustainability and carbon-neutral steaks, is planning on opening several new restaurants this year. Congratulations!
