Art really is everywhere in London, and this weekend a British-Iranian artist is bringing a thought-provoking piece of performance art to one of the city's most famous landmarks, Tower Bridge. Artist and wheelchair user Anahita Harding will be on the bridge's glass walkway on 16th March, performing her latest work, “Peaceful Journeys”.
In this never-before-seen piece, Harding will spend hours lying on the walkway inside a sleeping bag as a commentary on the ongoing challenges disabled Londoners face when navigating the city. The work was inspired by difficult journeys the artist has had as a wheelchair user in London, and how being a wheelchair user affects the way she gets around the capital. You'll be able to spot Harding on the walkway from the ground but the public are also encouraged to interact with her and become part of the work – you'll need to buy an entry ticket for Tower Bridge if you'd like to do this.
This isn't the first time that Harding has made a powerful statement about disability in London through her work. Last year she performed “Steps”, which saw her climbing The Monument using only her hands. The performance of “Peaceful Journeys” will take place between 9.30am and 6pm on Saturday – learn more on Tower Bridge's website.
