London is renowned for its impeccable Indian food scene, and it might just be one of the best places in the world to eat it (apart from India itself). You’ll find excellent Indian restaurants scattered all over the city, but head to Brick Lane, follow the wafts of curry, and you’ll find some of the best Indian food in London. Including Sheba, which was recently crowned the best curry in London.
The prestigious English Curry Awards has been running for 11 years. It brings together the best restaurants and takeaways from across England to battle it out for several different awards, with Sheba on Brick Lane nabbing the best London curry in 2022. They also previously won the Best Indian Restaurant in Brick Lane in 2012 and the Best Curry House in the UK in 2015.
The same family has run this Brick Lane mainstay since it opened in 1974, and it's one of the oldest curry houses in the area. A glance at the window will show you just how many awards this place has won over the years. You can expect all of the classic fare, including dishes from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, which the family has refined over decades. The menu is chock full of traditional dishes, like chicken tikka masala, biriyani, flaky samosas and tandoori lamb chops. It’s also BYOB (bring your own bottle).
