After closing up shop in Walthamstow, the Homies on Donkeys taqueria is ready to relaunch, bigger and better than ever.

It was a lousy start to the year back in January when Homies on Donkeys, a popular taqueria in Walthamstow's Wood Street Market, announced they'll be closing down the site where they had operated for more than five years. Thankfully, this wasn't a final goodbye.

Widely considered to offer some of the best tacos in the capital, Homies on Donkeys' popularity had outgrown their tiny original digs. That's why Sandra Bello and Erik “Smokey” Bautista, the duo behind the venture, found a bigger spot on Leytonstone's High Road. They've kept the authentic urban vibe, with colourful street art splashed all over the new venue, but they'll be expanding their offer to include dinner and even Sunday brunches. The new space also has room for a bar area, where they'll be serving snacks in addition to drinks.

The launch of Homies on Donkeys 2.0 was made possible in part by a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, so expect to see a lot of community love at the place. At the conclusion of their Kickstarter, Sandra and Erik also took to Instagram to reveal the heavily anticipated opening date. On 25 April, they'll start with a two-week soft launch to smooth out any kinks. Booking will be necessary during this time, and as the restaurant will only be operating at about 50% capacity, you'll want to keep an eye out on their socials from 18 April, when they open bookings.

After the initial soft launch, the team will take a few days off at the restaurant to participate in the Tacover festival, held at Signature Brew  brewery on Blackhorse Road over the coronation bank holiday. And after that's done and dusted, Homies on Donkeys will launch at full capacity. Mark your calendars!
