Nobody should have to spend Christmas alone (unless, of course, you want to). But unfortunately, so many people don't have that choice, and the big day can be when many people feel most alone. However, the Alexandra pub in Wimbledon has set out to tackle this for yet another year, hosting a Christmas Day to remember for anyone who would otherwise be alone.
The pub has been run by owners Sarah and Mick for the past fourteen years, and for the last twelve, they've been bringing the community together through free pints for anyone who would be spending Christmas on their own. It worked so well that once they got a bigger kitchen, they decided to take it up a notch and extend their offering, cooking an entire Christmas dinner and wine for those who would be spending the day alone. The best bit? There's no catch whatsoever.
The waitresses and waiters are all willing volunteers who have committed to offering their time on the big day serving locals, and spreading festive joy.
You'll find the Alexandra Pub at 33 Wimbledon Hill Rd, London SW19 7AS.
