In May and June Tottenham had a very special visitor when Beyoncé performed for five nights at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, attracting thousands of fans from across the city and beyond. It would appear that she was rather taken with the area – the singer's charity BeyGOOD has awarded a grant of $10,000 to local restaurant Chuku's.
The family-run Nigerian tapas restaurant appealed for customers to book tables at the end of 2022 to help them avoid facing closure. Fortunately their appeal was massively successful and the neighbourhood spot in Seven Sisters continues to thrive. The restaurant is one of 10 small businesses in London that the superstar has chosen to back, selected from 500 applicants. As part of her Renaissance World Tour, Beyoncé pledged to provide $1 million in support to small businesses along her tour route, including in cities like New Orleans, Chicago, and of course, London.
The winners of the BeyGood grants were announced at the Black Parade Luncheon, held in London at the Four Seasons hotel. The restaurant owners have stated that they continue to face challenges as a result of the cost of living crisis and the ongoing impact of Covid-19 lockdowns, and that the funds from the charity will help them to tackle these issues and continue to bring social Nigerian dining to Tottenham High Road.
