Since opening its first location close to Leicester Square in 2021, Bunsik has been bewildering tourists and locals alike with frankly ridiculous queues in front of its tiny eatery. There's nothing quite like a foodie craze hitting London, is there? In any case, the Korean street food vendor is struck while the iron's hot and opened a new location just a year later.
So, what's the big deal? What's the thing that has ravenous punters lining up in droves outside Bunsik's bright yellow shopfront, clutching their order number and shooting furtive glances at the lucky ones inside? Well, somewhat surprisingly, especially if you've ever gone stateside, it's … corndogs. Sausages-onna-stick, deep-fried in dough. The Korean madlads take it a step further, adding for example potato cubes to the batter, or sticking the sausage on the outside of a mozzarella stick in the shape of octopus legs. There's even one that's billed simply as "Cheese & Cheese" and contains, yes, cheese inside, with cheese sauce and parmesan slathered on outside.
If that all sounds a bit too much for you, they also offer ddukbokki, Korean rice cakes in a spicy sauce, as well some lighter sides – though if you're not coming out of there with something-onna-stick, we don't envy you the side-eye from those still waiting.
