If you're not walking out of Morty & Bob's with a grilled cheese toastie gripped in each hand, you're not doing it right.
Morty & Bob's is an all-day café and restaurant in the shiny Coal Drops Yard redevelopment in King's Cross. Fans of adult animation will be disappointed to hear there are no hidden references to popular TV shows here – the café is named after founder Charlie Phillips' grandfathers who were, by all accounts, true gentlemen. They inspired Charlie to launch a street food stall and pop-ups, then gradually expand into more permanent locations.
Regardless of the location, the stars of the show at Morty & Bob's are the grilled cheese sandwiches. You can choose between the classic with onions, a roast mushroom & truffle version, or 'nduja & roasted red pepper, each with its own rabid fanbase and available throughout the day. You can also order more classic restaurant fare such as burrata, roasted celeriac soup, burgers, Caesar salad and more. The exposed brick arches and their wooden furnishings provide welcoming respite from the hubbub of King's Cross, and there's also outdoor seating if you'd prefer to soak up some rays. The latter is especially great with one of the various cocktails on offer in hand, or perhaps a glass of one of the wines from the succinct wine list.
