Fun restaurants in London

Bambi

Natty wine and vinyl

Bambi only opened in late 2023 but it's already earned a spot in our list of fun restaurants in London. This contemporary London Fields-based restaurant and wine bar ticks all of the boxes for a fun wine and dine spot: a huge record collection and hi-fidelity sound system, a selection of natty wines, and a DJ spinning tracks throughout the week. Oh, and they also have an oyster happy hour. Tick tick tick.

Speedboat Bar

Inspired by Bangkok's speedboat racers

If your idea of fun is sitting in a kitsch Bangkok bar, then you might want to add Speedboat Bar to your list of must-visit restaurants. This themed spot was born because owner Luke Farrell decided he really liked the style of Bangkok's speedboat racers; picture rainbow-coloured boats, the kind you might see on an old-school Megadrive game. The food here is mostly really spicy, and they're not prepared to dim down on that since 'that's how it's supposed to be' fair enough, there's a reason people are raving about it. Head upstairs and you'll find a pool table and a tacky laminated drinks menu that looks like it's actually been plucked out of a bar in Bangkok.

Ciao Bella

Live piano and big bags of pasta

Ciao Bella, a renowned trattoria in Bloomsbury, is not only celebrated for its authentic Italian cuisine but also for the legendary resident pianist who will play all of your favourite Italian tunes every evening. Since it opened in 1983, the restaurant has been committed to bringing traditional Italian fare to the heart of London in a laid-back, fun way. Portions are huge, and a handful of stand-out dishes are practically designed for Instagram, like the spaghetti alle vongole, served in a big brown paper bag poured out onto your plate right in front of you. There's also an extensive selection of Italian wines and bottles from other regions, including house wines available by the glass.

Transport to Bombay

Get transported to the old-school Bombay cafés of Mumbai at Dishoom, where the decor and vibe are just as great as the food. The food pays homage to the food of Bombay; feast on their famous velvety black daal with cheese naan for dipping and dunking alongside standouts like masala prawns and crispy gunpowder potatoes washed down with their famous spiced chai or one of their cocktails. Dining at Dishoom is an immersive sensory experience, where everything from the smell of the food and the sepia family portraits to the Bombay-inspired music and newspaper-style menus makes dining here extra special.
