Every June and December, this E8 walking trail showcases art and craft in the city's vibrant East London neighbourhoods, Hackney Central, Dalston, and London Fields. The event offers rare access to the homes and studios of local artists and makers in the area. From fine art and illustration to ceramics and jewellery, it's a chance to explore Hackney's vibrant creative scene while meeting the talented individuals behind the work.
The E8 Art & Craft Trail was established in 2022 after discussions among local artists and makers who recognised the concentration of talent in the area. Many of them work from home or in small private studios. The group wanted to create a more personal way for the public to engage with their work.
While many artists already sell through markets, galleries, and online platforms, the trail offers a one-off opportunity for visitors to step into the creative spaces where the magic happens. It was inspired by past initiatives like Hidden Art of Hackney (1990–2012) and similar trails elsewhere to create an intimate, geographically focused walking route within the E8 postcode.
The trail takes place on December 7 and 8 and operates on a not-for-profit basis, aiming to foster community connection and engagement between visitors and creators while supporting creators in Hackney.
