The Museum of Shakespeare will open in 2025

London is already bursting at the seams with fascinating museums but in 2025 a new immersive museum is set to open in the capital. The Museum of Shakespeare will open in Shoreditch on the site of The Curtain Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse that was open between 1577 and 1624.

This museum, located three metres underground, will use AI to transport visitors back in time to the 16th century. It'll be an opportunity to discover more about the life and times of William Shakespeare by letting visitors experience a typical day in his life. Visitors will move through The Curtain Theatre's archaeological remains, which were only discovered in 2011, and participate in a range of interactive experiences that really bring the past to life.

During a visit you'll be able to walk across the stage where Shakespeare's plays were performed back in the day, believed to be where his work “Henry V” was debuted. There will be multi-sensory experiences in addition to displays of original objects from the Elizabethan age. Visitors even get the chance to take to the stage and show off their flair for telling a story.

Plans for the museum are still currently in development by Bompas & Parr. It's due to open next year but as of yet no opening date has been confirmed.
