Bohemia House
The only Czech and Slovak restaurant in London is Bohemia House, which opened in 1946 as a meeting place for Czech and Slovak people. Since then the restaurant has gained wider popularity because of its distinctive menu, classic surroundings, and the authentic experience it offers. It might be challenging to locate from the street, with just a banner outside, but inside you'll find multiple spaces and a traditional dining experience.
At this dog-friendly venue you'll see simple interiors with art and memorials on the walls, wooden floorboards, and straightforward furniture. Lots of light gets into the space but you can also sit in the garden. The venue hosts the odd barbecue as well as musical performances of classical and folk tunes. You're also welcome to plan your own private event here. The restaurant has private function spaces that are great for a range of occasions.
The menu at Bohemia House focuses on hearty Central and Eastern European cooking. Whether you're familiar with this cuisine or you're up for trying something new, there are many tempting options. Get started with soup or savoury pancakes before filling dishes like Slovak potato dumplings with bacon, onions, and cheese, beef goulash, roasted meats, or schnitzel. Vegetarian diners can try fried Edam cheese or fried cauliflower. Classic desserts are on the menu too. As you'd expect, there's plenty of beer behind the bar in addition to a global wine list. This place may be low-key but it's a unique addition to the food scene.
