Oliver Ingrosso and Louise Johansson are behind the Italian eatery Umarell, which spreads out over the ground floor of Dicksonska palatset. With a dining area and two bars under one roof, there's plenty of Italian food, wine, and cocktails to discover in magnificent surroundings.

This little wine bar in Vasa has become something of an institution among Gothenburg's gourmets. The team here are extremely knowledgeable about both food and wine and the wine selection includes unique wines that you won't find anywhere else. 

Bikt on Kyrkogatan draws in the crowds with its summer courtyard, but the restaurant is also a popular spot for dinner and lunch year-round. Trendy dishes with European influences are served, perfectly suited for a touch of everyday luxury.

The Michelin-starred restaurant Bhoga reopened in the summer of 2025 after extensive renovations. Book a luxurious tasting menu with Scandinavian influences in bright, refreshed surroundings on Norra Hamngatan.

Glamorous spa hotel Hjortviken Country Club includes two restaurants and several bars for a true escape. Choose between the The Club Room, an homage to classic Swedish chef Tore Wretman, and the tapas restaurant, Bay Bay, and then simply sit back and relax.

With 27 spectacular floors, Jacy'z is a proper "go-to-place" in Gothenburg. This playful resort is full of restaurants and bars in glamorous Art Deco style. Eat American classics at Archie's, stop by for lunch at Gaby's, or admire the view from the Asian rooftop bar Gogogaga on the 26th floor. 

Eight floors up in the Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel, Mei Rose takes you on a fast-paced flavour journey through Hong Kong, with a view of Gothenburg's skyline. The menu consists of Chinese small dishes to share with your table, and for a truly authentic experience you can try the "baijiu flight", where you're served three samples of the Chinese spirit, baijiu.

The gang behind the old Peacock dinner club have opened a new dinner club with modern Asian influences in the heart of Avenyn. Cheri-Lee serves food and cocktails against a backdrop of flowery sofas, painting-packed walls and a great atmosphere. Gather your friends for a weekend brunch or stay on after dinner to party the night away.

Suber opened its doors in Spring 2025 and was quickly embraced by food lovers in Gothenburg. The menu reflects a meeting between Scandinavia and France, and wines are served that have been carefully selected by the drink-savvy owner duo. Many of the dishes focus on fish and seafood, but there are also options with meat and vegetarian dishes available for those who prefer them.

Brasserie Voyage opened its doors in spring 2025 and quickly became a hot name on the Gothenburg dining scene. Flavours from the countries around the Mediterranean come together here in elegant and vibrant surroundings. In-the-know foodies come here for lunch or dinner, or for late-night cocktails in the restaurant's bar. 

Amano is a joint project from Alan Nonell Borrones, who previously ran the popular Bocado, and DINÉ Burgers. Diners are treated to an explosion of flavours and colours with influences from Mexico, Spain, and Los Angeles. The menu features tacos and other small dishes, but forget all preconceptions about Tex-Mex – at this place, craftsmanship and love form the foundation of everything served. The concept is called “corazón a mano”, which means “from heart to hand”. 

If you're in the mood to sip cocktails and eat dinner up above the rooftops with views over the river, head to Above, Scandic Göteborg Central's rooftop bar. The fourteenth floor takes inspiration from Miami and the Caribbean and there's great music and a relaxed atmosphere. Sit indoors or out.

A pig-shaped disco ball is not something you come across every day, but that's exactly what you'll find glittering on the ceiling of Suggan. In addition to wines in all colours and types, this charming wine bar also serves a lively menu of small and medium dishes that's updated regularly. And the atmosphere? A relaxed living room filled with all your best pals.

Wine and Neapolitan pizzas are at the heart of Robb, run by the couple Karl and Linnea Robb Kaardal. This intimate little eatery in Majorna is brimming with their passion for food and drink. Hop up onto a bar stool and have your pizza served directly from the pizza oven.

At Mugwort's, located in Slakthuset in Gamlestaden, they smoke their own meat and serve authentic BBQ with influences from Texas. Choose from classics such as brisket, ribs, sausages, and the restaurant's award-winning burgers. Served in Gothenburg's own Meatpacking District.

“Tasty grub and great wines” – that's the name of the game at Epoque, which is run by the same people as Publik in Lysekil. They've created a second living room here where you can drop by for a glass of wine in the bar, a few snacks, a main course or a whole set menu made with top quality ingredients and accompanied by a wine package. Make yourself at home among white tiles, shelves full of wine bottles and personal art. 

Skanshof is one of Gothenburg's hottest meeting places all year round, and perhaps a little more so during the summer months, with its outdoor seating on four levels. Food, drinks, art, and music coexist in one place, where you can easily come for an after-work drink, dinner, or weekend brunch with oysters and bubbles. As the weekend approaches, the vibe gets a bit more lively when DJs spin records.

Gurras is run by award-winning chef Gustav Trägårdh, who has created a menu filled with the restaurant's own interpretation of internationally-inspired streetfood dishes. Compose your own menu from a choice of starters, main courses and desserts, or drop by for a few snacks and a cocktail. 

Bang Matbar serves well-crafted, Nordic dishes based on the ingredients in season at the time. The restaurant is often visited by various chefs and food personalities who put their mark on the menu, which usually consists of six courses. The whole experience is framed by a welcoming and authentic atmosphere.

In the former engine room of Gamlestadens Fabriker, Ego Distillers is Gothenburg's first distillery and spirits bar, housed in impressive premises with a dining room, bar and distillery. Sharing plates are paired with drinks, vinyl records and tastings in the spirits factory.

Just around the corner from the fine dining restaurant Human, you'll find the hidden gem Bar Human, a modern bistro and gastrobar serving small plates made with the best seasonal ingredients. You're just as welcome for an after-work gathering as for an evening out with friends and family.

Wine Mechanics at Slakthuset is Sweden's first urban winery. They produce their own wine here from grapes sourced from European farms. Enjoy locally produced wine and food that complements it, and hang out at neighbourhood parties with live performances and DJs.

The Orrmyr family, who run several popular restaurants in Gothenburg, opened the doors to Elio on Östra Larmgatan in spring 2025. Sunshine and warmth flow like a common thread throughout the entire concept, from the food on the menu to the atmosphere in the restaurant. The large outdoor seating area is considered by many to be one of the better places in town to enjoy a refreshing drink.

Two hot sister restaurants offering Mexican flavours in their own unique styles are Tizne and La Taqueria. At Tizne, you can indulge in fine dining and tasting menus, while at La Taqueria, you can feast on tacos with authentic flavours.

Michelin-starred restaurant Koka may be one of the hottest spots in town, but don't miss the hidden gem Björns bar just downstairs. They serve a wide selection of wines by the glass and acclaimed dishes made with fine ingredients served until closing time.

Delicious food, beer and wine are the cornerstones of Micmatbar, located behind a big green door on Storgatan. The menu changes frequently, but always includes a variety of snacks and small dishes that are perfect for sharing with your table. 

Ever since Bee Kitchen & Bar opened its doors inside Saluhallen indoor food market, it's been a popular watering hole with a cheerful and open-minded atmosphere. Drop in for lunch, dinner, a bit of bar socialising or dancing into the small hours. They also organise drag nights and other events.

Kravall, which describes itself as a “not so serious restaurant”, opened in early 2025 and quickly became a hot spot to hang out. Brothers Miki and Kiki Ingber, who also opened Puta Madre and Grill del Mundo together, run the show. As well as food, they're passionate about wine.

Boulebar isn't just a popular summer hangout, it also draws in foodie guests with its French food and drinks. Eat rustic classics à la southern France, and enjoy brunch dishes and a dessert buffet at the weekend. Don't miss trying the classic boules drink, pastis, for a true southern French experience.  

The Havsbaren Tyska Bron calls itself the “sunniest seaside bar in Gothenburg”, and there is likely some truth to that claim. With a view of the canal's sparkling waters, you can enjoy drinks and food in the form of fresh salads and tasty comfort food. It goes without saying that this place is a popular spot for summer after-work gatherings.

With star pastry chef Fredrik Borgskog and his wife Gabriella at the helm, Borgskogs is a must-visit for anyone who loves top quality pastries, beer, wine, food, and snacks. This café and bakery is located in Linné and is a sister spot to the summer venue at Eskekärr Säteri.

Biljardpalatset's restaurant has a menu filled with international favourites made from seasonal ingredients. If you appreciate fine wines you can pick and choose from 220 unique kinds from the wine cellar, and if you prefer beer there's a wide selection to choose from. Come by with friends, family or colleagues and enjoy a delightful dinner experience, along with an exciting game of billiards.

Fiskbar 17 has become known for serving freshly caught fish and seafood in a street food style. Don't miss their prawn sandwich, which was awarded Gothenburg's best prawn sandwich in 2024 in Thatsup's test.

In 2015, Koka received its star in the Michelin Guide. Modern West Swedish gastronomy is the focus here, with less meat and instead a focus on local farmers and fishermen. The minimalist wooden interior, designed by Bornstein & Lyckefors Architects, has also been lauded.

This small sushi bar has long been praised for its luxurious sushi, and since 2025, it has also held a star in the Michelin Guide. Hoze is, in other words, a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience sushi at a Michelin-starred restaurant, although the wait for a table can be long.

Since 1984, Sjömagasinet has been a renowned fish and seafood destination on the southern banks of the Älvsborg river in Majorna. The restaurant was previously run by Leif Mannerström and classic dishes are still the order of the day in the historic building, which was the East India Company's warehouse in the 18th century. What's more, you can boast about having dined in the same place as the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and other celebrities.

Asian flavours with a contemporary twist are the order of the day at popular OGBG. Velvet sofas and modern murals give the restaurant an international buzz. According to The Rooftop Guide the bar, TaKeT, with its panoramic views over the entrance to Gothenburg harbour, is the best roofbar in the world.

This hot combination of café, bar and deli can be found at Kyrkogatan 13, where the Champagne Bar is also located. Hang out from morning until late evening, enjoying coffee, trendy dishes or meeting up for an after-work drink. Perfect for anyone who wants to mingle and be where the action is.

Michelin-starred Signum is a must-visit if you're in the mood for fine dining. Take a trip to Hällsnäs Hotel & Restaurant, where Signum's located, and treat yourself to a tasting menu inspired by the four elements: earth, air, fire and water.

Right in the middle of Avenyn is Ristorante Bellora, where you'll feel as though you've landed in an Italian hotel from the 1950s. Lush plants entwine around the intricate stair railings, and the pasta is made from scratch in the kitchen next door. Don't miss the chance to have an aperitivo and enjoy the view on Bellora's rooftop terrace, Cielo Rooftop Bar, which was previously named one of the world's five best rooftop bars by hotels.com.

In Floda, you'll find Folket på Garveriet, an inclusive meeting place that brings together a bakery, café and restaurant under one roof. Folket på Garveriet resembles a charming living room in eclectic vintage style where you can hang out all day, eat, enjoy coffee or just have a glass of wine. Authenticity is the name of the game here.

Comfort food in the form of homemade filled pasta accompanied by really good wine is the order of the day at Faccia Grassa. They aim to be an unpretentious space that doesn't compromise on culinary ambition. As well as pasta, they serve Italian snacks, small dishes and desserts.

A bright star in the restaurant sky shines in the heart of Majorna. Diket is run by three experienced chefs, and the menu is based around what they consider to be the most exciting produce around at the time. Wine is served on tap and by the bottle. Popular Tapasbaren in Majorna is run by an experienced team that has worked at Michelin-starred restaurants around the world. They aim to create a personal and family-friendly experience with great food in a social setting, just like you'd find in Spain. Dishes are prepared from scratch using local seasonal ingredients.

“A very serious restaurant and wine bar” – this is how Poppy describes itself, focusing entirely on seasonal dishes and Swedish ingredients. Come in for a tasting dinner with a pairing wine package, or drop in for a glass and a small plate or two.

Ilse Krog is in cosy premises in the heart of Majorna, where you can enjoy a relaxed dinner as well as hang out at the bar over a glass of organic wine. The menu revolves around bistro favourites in both Nordic and more Continental styles, with the restaurant's own modern touch. At the weekend, they open their doors earlier in the day and invite you to brunch with classic dishes and brunch cocktails.

Step into an urban jungle in the heart of the city and fill the table with fusion dishes inspired by Asia and Latin America, before enjoying cocktails in a vibrant setting. The grand restaurant Botánico is awash with tropical vibes, from the restaurant upstairs to the jungle bar one downstairs.

Asian fusion dishes in small plate format, cocktails and karaoke are the order of the day at The Melody Club, a stylish restaurant with private karaoke rooms where you can sing your heart out with friends or colleagues. The menu consists of Japanese flavours to share around the table and the bar is well-stocked with all kinds of drinks to complement them.

This Norwegian concept of "crazy golf" in a nightclub environment, food and a well-stocked bar has arrived in Gothenburg. At Underground Golf Club, you can experience mini-golf in a whole new way, perfect for after-work gatherings, hanging out with friends or a special date. Be sure to enjoy a wood-fired pizza in the restaurant before or after your game. 

Bistro Odette is an authentic little watering hole on Olivedalsgatan, with influences from hidden gems in Paris. In addition to a seasonal menu with French flavours, they also serve wines from small-scale producers. Drop in at any time.

The emphasis is on sustainability at this well-respected restaurant. The entire menu is traceable and made from locally-produced ingredients, while techniques are taken from Japanese cuisine. The menu includes sushi, sashimi and steak tartare made from organic ingredients from the West Coast. Luxurious, minimalist interiors mirror the culinary theme.

Up on the fourth floor of the famous Hotel Pigalle is the hotel restaurant, Atelier. Velvet banquettes and chandeliers create a feeling of turn-of-the-last-century Parisian decadence. The cocktail list follows the same theme and the kitchen also takes its inspiration from France, although the ingredients they use come from local producers.

If you fancy mingling with international visitors and admiring the view over the Göta Älv river, don't miss the restaurant at the Quality Hotel Waterfront. The building used to be a brewery and you can meet up these days over both food and a wide selection of porters and other beers.

Rollin Bistros Backyard serves up nice vibes, plenty of places to sit and varied cuisine in industrial surroundings. Choose from Asian food and drink in the Japanese beer hall, creative cocktails in the bar or streetfood dishes in the restaurant. A friendly hangout that works as well for lunch or dinner as a post-work drink.

Tiljan's signature embodies international meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Come by for a simple dinner or a three-course meal, or why not combine your theatre visit with a meal before the performance. Head chef Stefan Stenbom has created the menu along with star chef Ulf Wagner at Gothenburg city theatre's in-house restaurant.

If you're in the mood for jazz, Unity is the place to come. The jazz club, which used to be a travelling members' club, has now moved into Kale'i's former premises and opened up to anyone who wants to listen to some groovy jazz. Cheese fondue, whisky and jam nights are just a few of the delights on their events calendar.

You'll find Noot Nordik Kitchen inside the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, serving traditional Scandinavian dishes with its own modern touch. The menu includes meatballs made from wild boar, among other things. The restaurant is elegantly decorated in Scandinavian minimalist style with blonde wood and green plants.
