Every detail is carefully thought-through and their unique dishes are a whole process - their bread, for example, takes five days to bake.

Ma Cuisine may have been at the same address for more than 20 years, with a loyal group of regulars, but they still manage to remain relevant and draw in new guests. Swedish produce in season steers the menu, while the cooking is classic French. Whether you come by for a cocktail, lunch or evening out with dinner you can count on a complete experience with ambitious service and flavours. 

Eight floors up in the Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel, Mei Rose takes you on a fast-paced flavour journey through Hong Kong, with a view of Gothenburg's skyline. The menu consists of Chinese small dishes to share with your table, and for a truly authentic experience you can try the "baijiu flight", where you're served three samples of the Chinese spirit, baijiu.

This French brasserie in historic premises is run by the Götaplatsgruppen and Park Lane. At the helm is star chef Stefan Karlsson, and culinary influences come from dining experiences in cities such as Paris and New York. Don't miss their sister restaurant Studion, which is even more lively.

Japanese and Latin American flavours, guest chefs, drinks, DJs, and artists. Nomi consists of two restaurants, a bar, and a gallery with plenty of happenings. Try the Nikkei cuisine at Aji or enjoy an intimate dining experience with a guest chef at Révolte.

If you're in the mood to sip cocktails and eat dinner up above the rooftops with views over the river, head to Above, Scandic Göteborg Central's rooftop bar. The fourteenth floor takes inspiration from Miami and the Caribbean and there's great music and a relaxed atmosphere. Sit indoors or out.

A pig-shaped disco ball is not something you come across every day, but that's exactly what you'll find glittering on the ceiling of Suggan. In addition to wines in all colours and types, this charming wine bar also serves a lively menu of small and medium dishes that's updated regularly. And the atmosphere? A relaxed living room filled with all your best pals.

The old meeting point Vasaplatsen 3 lives on in the form of Fabel. The focus here is on classics in the glasses, on the plates, and in the speakers. Club Fabel cranks things up a notch, with DJs spinning tunes in the bar.

At Mugwort's, located in Slakthuset in Gamlestaden, they smoke their own meat and serve authentic BBQ with influences from Texas. Choose from classics such as brisket, ribs, sausages, and the restaurant's award-winning burgers. Served in Gothenburg's own Meatpacking District.

The team behind Marstrands Wärdshus and Grand Hotel Marstrand have moved into Wolfgang's old premises on Västra Hamngatan and opened Vita Duvan, named after a club that their uncles ran on Avenyn in the 60s. They serve wine and European dishes for lunch and dinner.

The gang behind the old Peacock dinner club have opened a new dinner club with modern Asian influences in the heart of Avenyn. Cheri-Lee serves food and cocktails against a backdrop of flowery sofas, painting-packed walls and a great atmosphere. New Nordic cooking is the order of the day at Human - ie. Nordic flavours and local ingredients in season. These are transformed into luxurious multi-course tasting menus, a slightly shorter version at lunchtime and a longer one at dinner. Fiskbar 17 has become known for serving freshly caught fish and seafood in a street food style. Don't miss their prawn sandwich, which was awarded Gothenburg's best prawn sandwich in 2024 in Thatsup's test.

Along with his wife, baker and pastry chef Fredrik Borgskog runs this popular café in their home at Äskekärr säteri in Tostared. While you're visiting the Borgskogs, you can order one of theor sought-after Saturday boxes, full of bread and pastries.

At Bar Palavas, the concept is as simple as it's popular: small dishes made with ingredients from local producers and growers, carefully selected wines and beers from local microbreweries. Flavours are Swedish-French and the restaurant's run by co-owners Viktor, Hugo and Christian, who have known each other since their teens and who got the inspiration for the pub on a trip to Palavas-les-flots in the south of France.

This creative restaurant in the Riverside Hotel boasts waterfront views over the Göta älv river. This slightly quirky hotel restaurant has been lauded for its rich, detailed design and it's a perennially popular watering hole for anyone looking for exciting flavour combinations. The menu mixes and matches flavours from all over the world in innovative dishes, using seasonal ingredients. Pair your food with one of Cuckoo's own cocktails. 

Comfort food in the form of homemade filled pasta accompanied by really good wine is the order of the day at Faccia Grassa. They aim to be an unpretentious space that doesn't compromise on culinary ambition. As well as pasta, they serve Italian snacks, small dishes and desserts.

NOT, sister restaurant to Koizen and Tizne, opened its doors on Linnégatan in the summer of 2024. A cosy neighbourhood restaurant that focuses on high quality and extraordinary dining experiences with influences from modern European cuisine.

This Norwegian concept is driven by good old-fashioned hospitality rather than passing trends. They want everyone to feel comfortable, relax and enjoy themselves. The menu is extensive and full of classics for both large and small appetites. A bright star in the restaurant sky shines in the heart of Majorna. Diket is run by three experienced chefs, and the menu is based around what they consider to be the most exciting produce around at the time. Wine is served on tap and by the bottle. If you want to splurge, you can add a starter or dessert, or opt for the three-course offer with any main course.

This Norwegian concept of "crazy golf" in a nightclub environment, food and a well-stocked bar has arrived in Gothenburg. At Underground Golf Club, you can experience mini-golf in a whole new way, perfect for after-work gatherings, hanging out with friends or a special date. Be sure to enjoy a wood-fired pizza in the restaurant before or after your game. 

The emphasis is on sustainability at this well-respected restaurant. The entire menu is traceable and made from locally-produced ingredients, while techniques are taken from Japanese cuisine. The menu includes sushi, sashimi and steak tartare made from organic ingredients from the West Coast. Luxurious, minimalist interiors mirror the culinary theme.

Up on the fourth floor of the famous Hotel Pigalle is the hotel restaurant, Atelier. Velvet banquettes and chandeliers create a feeling of turn-of-the-last-century Parisian decadence. If you fancy mingling with international visitors and admiring the view over the Göta Älv river, don't miss the restaurant at the Quality Hotel Waterfront. The building used to be a brewery and you can meet up these days over both food and a wide selection of porters and other beers.

The panoramic restaurant Heaven 23 opened in 2001, and they describe themselves as a timeless classic in constant change. The menu is mostly European, but flavour influences are drawn from global cuisines to create a seasonal combination that pairs with carefully selected wines and artisanal cocktails from the bar.

Oizo in Kålltorp go all-in on all the things they like the most - pizza, natural wine and locally-brewed beer. Don't miss Oizo's Detroit-style pan pizza either. Joe Farelli's is a classic watering hole on Avenyn which has maintained the same high standard for many years. Entering the restaurant is like stepping into a miniature version of Little Italy, with red-and-white checked tablecloths, pastel leather booths and black and white photographs on the walls. The menu is full of Italian-American favourites and the cocktail bar serves up drinks in a buzzy atmosphere. 

Are you passionate about natural wine and trying new flavour combinations? Or are you just longing for the charm and vibrancy of Italy? Then Bar Centro could be just the spot for you. This trendy little Italian is as much a coffee bar as it is a lunch and dinner spot. Come here for a steaming hot espresso, warming risotto or a couple of small dishes and wine. From time to time they have guest performances in both the bar and the kitchen.

Buenos Aires Argentine Steakhouse opened its doors in 2016 in Gothenburg and now has two restaurants in the city. Come for an authentic taste experience with an emphasis on Argentine beef from the grill and selected Argentine wines to accompany your meal.

Rollin Bistros Backyard serves up nice vibes, plenty of places to sit and varied cuisine in industrial surroundings. Choose from Asian food and drink in the Japanese beer hall, creative cocktails in the bar or streetfood dishes in the restaurant. A friendly hangout that works as well for lunch or dinner as a post-work drink.

If you ask a local gamer where they like to socialise, eat, and play with old and new friends, the answer is most likely Kappa Bar on Rosenlundsgatan. Each table is equipped with a Nintendo Switch or Playstation console with a variety of games to choose from, and the menu is filled with various street food dishes such as burgers and pizza.

Berlin Döner was created when the owner moved from Germany and missed Turkish cuisine. The ambition is to offer döner just as it tastes in Berlin, a concept that's proved very popular.

Head chef Stefan Stenbom, together with star chef Ulf Wagner, has created the menu at Gothenburg City Theatre's in-house restaurant, Tiljan. Classic dishes take centre stage here, such as posh fish pie and Toast Skagen. Come by for a simple supper or a full three-course meal, or why not combine your theatre visit with a meal before the performance.

If you're in the mood for jazz, Unity is the place to come. The jazz club, which used to be a travelling members' club, has now moved into Kale'i's former premises and opened up to anyone who wants to listen to some groovy jazz. Cheese fondue, whisky and jam nights are just a few of the delights on their events calendar.

You'll find Noot Nordik Kitchen inside the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, serving traditional Scandinavian dishes with its own modern touch. The menu includes meatballs made from wild boar, among other things. The restaurant is elegantly decorated in Scandinavian minimalist style with blonde wood and green plants.
