Skanshof, housed in the iconic building opposite Skansen Kronan, is a seafood restaurant with several terraces perfect for enjoying a drink when the weather allows. Oysters, lobster, freshly caught prawns and other delicacies combine with bubbles and cocktails.

A small and ambitious place that places great emphasis on taste. In the kitchen, food is grilled over an open fire, and you can watch everything happen thanks to the open kitchen. They describe themselves as a very serious restaurant that challenges the boundaries of traditional cooking, with multi-course menus made from Swedish ingredients. The restaurant also has a nice outdoor seating area to sip wine in when the weather allows.

The Old Beefeater Inn offers an open and convivial atmosphere with lively chatter and many regulars. Enjoy classic pub grub such as burgers and fish & chips and plenty of beer to choose from the pub's 17 taps.

Walk in the Park on Linnégatan serves up parklife vibes all year round. Step into an inviting world of leafy plants, park furniture, blankets and lanterns. Roman pizzas take centre stage on the menu, served in various sizes, but they also offer selected natural wines, locally-brewed beers and cocktails made with organic ingredients.

In the mood for hearty, authentic central European dishes? Manfred's Brasserie serves classic, top quality dishes from Switzerland and Austria. Many people come here for a traditional Wiener schnitzel and Swiss raclette but the menu also includes fish and vegetarian options. The drinks list is carefully thought-through and, not surprisingly, includes primarily wine and beer from the same regions.

Combining a record store and restaurant sounds as unusual and cosy as it is, with a dining room surrounded by lots of vinyl records. Ramen Ya, one of the first spots in Gothenburg to specialise in ramen - Japanese noodle soup, is as close to Linnéplatsen and Slottsskogen as you can get. Soups are made in the traditional way and broth is simmered for at least 12 hours to develop its characteristic flavour. Noodles are made on site, from scratch. Ramen is usually made with meat broth, but Ramen Ya has several other options if you'd rather eat meat-free.

Sweet or savoury – that's the question. At Heurlins, you don't have to choose, as there's a thoughtfully designed bistro and a sugary sweet café under one roof. In the bistro area, street food, delicious sandwiches, and other delights are served, while the café offers a range of buns, pastries, cakes, and other baked goods in its rose-tinted world.

Villa Belparc is a classic destination for food and refreshments all year round, but especially during the summer months when the large outdoor terrace becomes a true oasis with views over Stora Dammen pond and Slottsskogen park. The flavours are classically Italian, featuring ingredients like tomato sauce, mozzarella, cured meats, and vegetables, and if you want you can pair your pizza with some antipasti or the house's homemade tiramisu. All this in a friendly and often slightly festive atmosphere.

Forget all about tex-mex, at Tizne they've taken a deep dive into authentic Mexican cuisine, serving genuine dishes with plenty of love and flavour. Choose from street food and tasting menus that combine food memories from childhood in Mexico, dishes from street food stalls and feast food from different parts of the country.

Many would describe this little bistro on Olivedalsgatan as small but seriously delicious. Bistro Odette has 18 covers and if you want to guarantee a seat, booking is definitely recommended. Intimate and homely are the keywords here; the owner couple do everything themselves in the restaurant and make sure all guests feel right at home. Odette is inspired by Paris in the most unpretentious ways; the menu is short and classically French, ingredients are carefully selected and the wine list is extensive.

Bistro, bar, art, and culture - that's how Taverna Averna describe themselves. The walls are adorned with art from over 300 Gothenburg artists, and DJ regularly spin the decks and set the tone for the evening. The menu offers a classic bistro selection of oysters, meat dishes, traditional Swedish cuisine, salads, pizza, and desserts, while the bar offers a wide variety of drinks.

Rustic, simple, and traditional are the three guiding principles at Spanska Köket, whose ambition is to present Spanish food as it has always been prepared in the countryside, with recipes fine-tuned over generations. The flavours are not only from Spain but also from the entire Mediterranean region, as well as Central Europe and the Middle East. Choose from tapas, wood-fired grilled dishes, and larger main courses, and order a suitable drink to accompany your food.

Sjöbaren serves truly Gothenburgian taste experiences, made with fresh fish and seafood straight from the harbour. The menu varies depending on the weather, wind, and season, but you can always count on seafood platters, oysters, and well-composed fish dishes. Even the interior hints at the theme, but it hasn't always been this way – the premises have been used as both a free church and a sock factory before Sjöbaren moved in.

At DINÉ Burgers they serve hamburgers made from scratch from Swedish ingredients. Meat is ground on site every day, burger buns are baked at a local bakery and the dressing is made to their own recipe. The decor flirts with classic American diner style, but with an industrial twist. There's also a classic bar here with an emphasis on beer, and at weekends they serve brunch.

Thin, crispy pizzas are the order of the day at Spröd in Masthugget, baked by an experienced baker who has run a pizzeria since the Nineties. As well as pizzas, there are also various wraps, plates and salads to choose from. As the name (which means “crisp” in Swedish) suggests, the focus is on baking truly crispy, crunchy pizzas topped with all sorts of delicious ingredients.

Coco Orangerie on Linnégatan is a modern lifestyle restaurant with a passion for both food and design. Eat lunch, brunch and dinner, or enjoy a cocktail in the bar. Part of the restaurant is completely glassed-in, just like an orangery.

Bar Robusta is a Continental food and wine bar that, unsurprisingly, draws its inspiration from Southern Europe. Food, wine and coffee (especially espresso) characterise this cosy Linné gem.

The Asian street food restaurant Omami isn't much larger than a food stall, but you can both eat in and order takeaway here. With influences from Vietnam, Japan and other parts of Asia, they serve classic flavours with a modern twist. Try everything from their crispy fries to fluffy baos, Vietnamese noodle salads and poké.

Martin Moses, Chef of the Year 2019, is one of driving forces behind Human Restaurant. He creates luxurious and relaxed fine dining using local ingredients in season and Nordic flavours. The concept is called New Nordic and can be experienced in the form of both elegant business lunches and dinners with friends, partners or family. Drinks packages with hand-picked wines from all around the world can also be added to the tasting menus.

As you climb the hill towards Konstepidemin and notice the city beginning to transform into a peaceful oasis - that's when you know you're in the right place. You'll find the restaurant Husette here, creating elegant dishes using seasonal ingredients. They also take advantage of their location close to art and culture, decorating the dining room with art from artists from Konstepidemin.

Gyllene Prag is a true Gothenburg institution. Long before Linnéstan became the foodie mecca it is today - in 1973 to be precise - this Czech restaurant opened its doors, becoming one of Linné's two restaurants. Much has happened since then, but their legendary fried cheese is still served in the same way. Beer, homemade Eastern European food in hearty portions and a warm, welcoming atmosphere are the order of the day.

Get ready for an evening of tasting and sharing at Silvis, where the menu is full of Palestinian meze. Either pick and choose your own favourites, or opt for the tasting menu showcasing the breadth and depth of Palestinian cuisine.

Summer all year round - in Gothenburg? At Magic Flamingo it is, with staff in colourful shirts, green plants hanging from the ceiling, and cooling, colourful cocktails being shaken at the bar. Influences come from both Cuba and Miami, which is reflected in the menu consisting of dishes like ceviche and tacos.

A welcoming bistro that revolves around the large cast iron grill in the heart of the kitchen. You'll find plenty of good wine, delicious cocktails, cheese and charcuterie and, naturally, an extensive grill menu. Come by for a drink or fabulous dinner, with friends and family or colleagues.

You won't find the sausages they serve here anywhere else - the butcher who makes them only supplies Würst. Choose one of the complete dishes on the menu or pick and choose your own meal with accompaniments. Either way, the food is best washed down with a German lager, and there are plenty on offer here.
