The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards were handed out at a ceremony on 12 June, and London-based establishments took home the majority of the accolades – but the top prize eluded the capital yet again.
Of the top 50 restaurants that received honours at the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards in 2023, no fewer than 32 can be found in London, including three of the top five. Da Terra in Bethnal Green came in at number 3, followed by The Ledbury and Bouchon Racine. Not a bad showing for the capital at all, yet the top two spots remained just out of reach. Gareth Ward's Ynyshir in Wales took home the top prize for the second year in a row, with Restaurant Moor Hall in Lancashire as runner-up. You can find the full Top 100 list here.
A number of other special awards were also handed out, and London's restaurants performed admirably here as well. The Ledbury also snagged the Service Award for its impeccable service, while Midland Grand Dining Room was declared One to Watch. Samyukta Nair (Koyn, Socca) was named Restaurateur of the Year, while Bouchon Racine was named Opening of the Year. The Ledbury's April Lily Partridge was named Chef to Watch, while Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver of St. John (#74 on the main list) were recognised for their Outstanding Industry Contribution. On the drinks front, Maison François (#34) boasts the Wine List of the Year. Finally, Apricity received the Innovator of the Year award.
Congratulations to all the winners!
