Sweden's first urban winery
Wine Mechanics proudly claims to be Gothenburg's, and probably Sweden's, first urban winery. Which is exactly what it sounds like - wine making in urban surroundings. They make their own wine in the former meatpacking district of Gamlestan and in the restaurant right next door everyone's welcome to taste the wines in an industrial-style setting. Pair your drinks with small and larger plates with flavours primarily from Europe.
Behind Wine Mechanics are Kenneth Gustafsson and his partner Magnus Holmgren, who describe themselves as “two lunatics who started Scandinavia's first urban winery.” Together with wine maker Erik, they make wines with attitude, a great back story and a feeling of belonging. They also like wines that pose questions and shake things up a bit; wines with personality, in other words.
Grapes come from some of Europe's top wineries, which arrive in Gamlestan around 48 hours after they've been harvested. As soon as they arrive at the winery the intensive work of crushing, pressing and fermenting the grapes into wine begins. The well-regarded wines can then be sampled in their own taverna, The Winery Pub, where wine takes centre stage and shines alongside honest, hearty food with a focus on quality and ingredients in season. The menu includes flavours from Gothenburg's fish markets alongside streetfood and French brasserie culture.
There's always something fun going on in the lively building: while their wines are fermenting to perfection they host wine tastings, parties and other events with an emphasis on wine. You can also book your own events and conferences in the industrial premises.

Borde vara en vinälskares paradis, men väntetiden var lång under hela måltiden tyvärr. Maten var ok, men vi valde nog fel viner och får ge stället ett nytt försök länge fram.
