The Tattu group took a while to make it to London, first making a name for themselves in places like Manchester and Edinburgh, and were then delayed further by the pandemic. But they sure went all out when they finally got here in 2022.

The restaurant's concept revolves around the traditional Chinese courtyard house, with three "residences", each characterised by its own protective spirit, surrounding an inner courtyard where diners can enjoy their meals beneath the night sky and Tattu's reimagination of cherry blossom trees. There's also an outdoor terrace and cocktail bar with a lovely view of the city, as the restaurant is located on the rooftop of the Now Building next to Tottenham Court Road station. The decor is sumptuous, all timber tones, liquid metal details and luxurious fabrics, yet understated enough to keep the focus on the dishes.

The menu features Chinese cuisine, updated for the modern age with intriguing combinations and ingredients. There's an array of dim sum to choose from, as well as small and large plates, but the text-only menu cleverly hides one of Tattu's main aces up its sleeve – the presentation of the dishes themselves. The plates are arranged in imaginative fashion, with dishes looking like a dragon's egg or a goldfish bowl almost making it a shame to sink your teeth in, and the experience as a whole is quite memorable.
