In many ways Familjen comes under the fine dining category - but at much kinder prices than many other restaurants in this genre. The welcoming restaurant on Arkivgatan, right next to Avenyn, serves unpretentious food made from locally-produced ingredients. The restaurant has been awarded the Guide Michelin's Bib Gourmand, a distinction for restaurants that serve really good food at reasonable prices.

If you're looking for a pub with a cosy, elegant feel, head to The Golden Days. It's like visiting a good old-fashioned British pub, complete with burgundy leather sofas and dark wood. The menu is slightly more modern though, with classic dishes. Meat, fish, vegetarian - there's something for everyone. Filling your belly at a restaurant doesn't need to cost a fortune. And at Beerista you're guaranteed to leave full and happy. Inspired by the gastropub culture of the Nineties, they offer a traditional pub concept with a wide selection of beer, along with quality pub grub such as hamburgers, pizza, grilled dishes and salads. All in rustic surroundings. 

Swedish Taco celebrates Swedish interpretations of Mexican street food, with different versions of burritos, bowls and tacos on the menu. Eat to your heart's content without burning a hole in your wallet, and with a wide range of flavours and a large vegetarian selection there really is something for everyone.

The Japanese noodle dishes at Ramen-Ya are made from scratch without any additives. The restaurant is one of the first in Gothenburg to specialise in ramen, and it has gained a reputation for being both authentic and good value. Try out one of the different varieties, with or without meat, and select your favourite toppings.

If you want a truly über-German food and drink experience without an actual trip to Germany, then Prost is a fully-fledged alternative. At Dubbelhakan, you don't have to break the bank to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine. Neapolitan pizzas are baked here according to the highest standards, before being topped with innovative flavours. There's also a selection of small plates, cheeses, and charcuterie available if you prefer. Inside Clarion Hotel Draken, Heurlins is a vibrant bistro, bar, and café with a penchant for both sweet and savoury. West Coast-inspired street food meets heavenly pastries for much of the day, from lunch to after-work drinks and dinner. Enjoy everything from fish & chips and steak sandwiches to beautiful pastries and sparkling wine on tap.

In Gothenburg's very own Meatpacking District, Slakthuset in Gamlestaden, Johan "Grillmaster from Gråbo" Kullberg tends to the grills alongside BBQ-enthusiast Sanna Kullberg. At Chef of the Year winner Thomas Sjögren's neighbourhood bistro by Vasaparken, you can enjoy really delicious food without severely negatively impacting your wallet. The menu consists of luxury pizzas, cheese, charcuterie, and a selection of seasonal small dishes, which go wonderfully with a glass of wine or a cocktail. You'll also find perhaps the city's most affordable set menu with multiple courses – perfect when you're having trouble deciding, or just want to indulge in a slightly more elevated dining experience.

At Omami, you can order Asian street food influenced by the streets of Vietnam, Japan, and other parts of Asia. The restaurant resembles a small Asian-style street kitchen with light woods and kitsch details, and you can dine in or order food as takeaway.

The motto at Texas Longhorn is that no one should leave the restaurant dissatisfied, broke or hungry. A great concept, especially for those on a tighter budget. They're particularly partial to hearty cuts of meat and Texas barbecue served with substantial sides. Bryggeriet has stood the test of time since it opened in 1993. The concept is familiar: great food and drinks at wallet-friendly prices, topped off with a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. The menu consists of organic and locally-produced ingredients made into classic dishes with international influences, such as burgers, sandwiches, grilled meat, pizzas and pasta. 

Housed in a former brewery on the edge of the Göta Älv river, the Quality Hotel Waterfront's restaurant serves good value dishes with European influences. Locals and international visitors alike come here to eat, hang out and enjoy the views over the water.

The Melody Club is a restaurant and karaoke bar with a Japanese theme. On the menu, there are Japanese fusion dishes in small plate format, making it easy to control how much you want to eat for dinner. The bar shakes and stirs cocktails should you fancy one.

Inclusive is the name of the game at Folket på Garveriet, in Floda just outside Gothenburg. And what could be more inclusive than a price point that everyone can afford, regardless of wallet thickness? The restaurant is open all day with dishes from both the West Coast and the Mediterranean, and in the café, you can enjoy a coffee or have breakfast. All of this in cosy surroundings with both industrial and more personal touches. 

Everyone's welcome at this relaxed bar on Avenyn, although rock fans are particularly well represented. You can get an affordable meal with bar classics such as burgers, pizza and fried snacks here. Happy hour is celebrated several days a week, with even more generous prices.

French neighbourhood restaurant vibes are never far away at this metro-tiled bistro. They serve classic bistro dishes such as moules marinières, as well as dishes with influences all over the world. Choose between half or full main course portions, depending on your hunger level and bank balance. The emphasis is on warmth and conviviality. 
 

Thin, crispy pizzas are the order of the day at Spröd, a small pizzeria in Masthugget. You can also choose from other fast food favourites such as wraps, plates and salads. The venue is small, so takeaway may be preferred, but there are a few seats if you want to enjoy your food on-site.

This relaxed basement bar in Vasa serves budget-friendly food and drinks downstairs. The menu includes pasta and pizza at reasonable prices, and in the bar, you can find wine, beer, and cocktails that won't break the bank either.

Gezana is a welcoming restaurant bringing a taste of Eritrea to Gothenburg, with authentic dishes such as flavourful stews, samosas, and the traditional flatbread, injera. The menu features both vegetarian and meat dishes, aiming to create a cosy atmosphere for all guests.
