Review of Café Foam – by Syard B.
I have been a regular for over 20 years and seen this cafe pass 4 owners. The Cafe was intially designed by London W8 interior designers and was very cool and chique at the time with fresh white giant lillys on every table top made of glass which stretched 5 meter in length. The 3rd owners Milan and Micke, took it down a notch in terms of elgeance and made it more a local familiar cafe with focus on regulars. Micke was a competing Barrista and trained his staff meticously to get the cofee as close to perfection possible. Food was of good quality, yet nothing out of the ordinary, but always fresh and well prepared.
The current owners that took over roughly a year and a half ago, are very friendly, but unfortunately lack the skills required to maintain previous standards. This in particular to food that is very sub standard, inconsistant in quality and lacks "taste". I use to be a regular that ate there several days a week and now I only come for the pancakes on week-ends.
It´s clear that I am not of sole opinion on this matter, as the place use to buzzle during lunch time, always packed. The same applied on week-ends. If you were not there befoere 11.45 for brunch, you could easlily expect to wait 30 mins to get a table. All that is gone.
Today Foam, is a quiet place. A place I sit and work a lot, with gentle and friendly staff. The cofee is still good, but the selection of pasteries has gone down. The carrot cake is still majestic. I have aged over the years. I was 25 when i first went to Foam and I am 45 now. My priorties have changed, and having a quite friendly neigbourhood cafe where I am always welcome to sit and work and drink great cofee, suits me well. I eat elsewhere!
