Among Gamla Stan's myriad of touristy cafés Chaikhana distinuishes itself from the masses. This small, authentic teahouse boasts hundreds of flavours and serves both French and English style afternoon tea. The spread varies with a delightful mix of canapés, scones, sandwiches, brioches as well as pastries and champagne. Tea at Chaikhana is well worth a detour.

Chaikhana opened in 2004 and was the first of its kind in Sweden. In Chaikhana's cosy rooms tea drinking is very much a ritual. Blended teas from around the world are bound to appeal to both connoisseurs and interested laymen.

With Scandinavia's largest assortment of tea behind the counter the experience will significantly expand your knowledge beyond the all too familiar Earl Grey family. Around 250 teas are housed here and Chaihana stocks two of Europe's finest teahouses namely Mariages Frères and Maison de Trois Thés.

Tea and scones are all very well, but Chaikhana takes it a step further offering a tempting array of cakes, macaroons, savoury sandwiches as well as fresh salads and Champagne.

Chaikhana was also the first to introduce the concept of tea tasting. Five different varieties of tea are sampled along with French canapés and a brief history. If you wish to further expand upon your newfound knowledge of tea the founder, Asok Kapoor, also lectures at the Restaurant Academy in Stockholm and Umeå.
